Hand-held computer tuners?

I live in western NC. Not many race shops. Anyone have any positive results from a custom tele-computer internet tune? With noticeable results? You tell what you already have, you get a tune to load?

Thanks for any input.

Rich

If you're not modding your car there is really no need to tune and you're just tossing $$ away.

Let the mods determine whether you need a tune or not.

I am not the original owner so I have no idea if any mods were preformed prior to me. I have added cold air then one day long tube headers and then 3.91 gears. Would I then tune after the headers mod and then again after the 3.91s, if done separately?

CAI doesn't require a tune. 3.91 gears don't require a tune, but you may want your speedo calibrated, or you may get your stabiltrack light come on. Longtubes don't a tune, but you may get more out of them with a tune.

Jannetty Racing Enterprises. Forum sponsor here. He tunes my car remotely using SCT handheld and did a great job, I highly recommend him.

You will need a tune once you go with headers. Gears and CAI it's not required.

...and this is a great choice if you're going to do it remote.

Yes, not in the sense that the fuel table will need adjusted, but gearing change of the differential requires a speedometer adjustment via the OBD II port and the CAN bus, so that is a tune, just a tune of different parameters.

To the original poster: now that you changed the rear differential gear ratio, your speedometer is off.

Alternatively, "HP Tuners" has a series of videos on "YouTube" on how to change various configuration settings in the firmware with their software. The only major flaw in their software is that it only runs on that piece of shit Microsoft Windows platform, so if you have a laptop with a Microsoft Windows operating system, buying the entitlement for your vehicle and learning how to do it yourself through their videos might be an option for you.
