I agree, but I'm hjemorraging cash on this thing enough already. He will have to run the Edelbrock for a while.

We are steadily making progress on Zach's car. We've installed new weatherstripping throughout, but we need to get the windows adjusted to stop the leaks. We got his headers and exhaust done, but I'm afraid it is too loud. Oh well, it is legal for now.

Last night Zach got to drive the car for the first time. He practiced taking off from an idle, without giving it any gas. He got the hang of that fairly quickly, but the old clutch is so wasted that smooth take offs are almost impossible. We pulled the car into the garage last night and pulled the transmission out of the car. Tonight we will remove the bell housing and the clutch. I have a new LUK clutch set and flywheel waiting to install, so hopefully we can get it mostly done tonight. After that we need a set of tires and an alignment. This thing is all over the road right now, but all of the steering components are new so an alignment should have it straightened out and driving right.

Zach has been daily driving his Camaro since the start of the school year. He has had a couple of minor breakdowns (fan belt, starter) that he has been able to diagnose and fix himself. He knows his car fairly well after all of the work he put into it over the summer. So far we have been lucky with regard to weather, so he hasn't had to leave it home and ride the bus due to snow.

Forgot to mention that we installed a true trac, 3.73 gears and upgraded the axles to 30 spline.

We also dressed up the engine bay a bit, but it still need a lot of attention to look good. Ditched the Edelbrock for a 650 double pumper and got some cool valve covers off marketplace for $50, NIB.

To look good he would have to get out of the car.
Mainly that work well ;-)

Glad to see Holley carb.
I love their carburetors.

Nice work

Thanks, George. Zach is working now, so he has been able to save and do a few upgrades. He just loves the car, and he has been taking good care of it. He plans to do an LS swap eventually, so this tired old engine probably won't get much more attention, other than what it takes to keep it running.

Cool to see the younger generation working on the older cars I grew up wrenching on.
Glad he's enjoying it

Great son and great old school Camaro.
I envy the manual transmission and the freedom to adjust.
Put the LS engine in place of the old small block, so the clerk and the policeman will eat you what you dare

I keep my fingers crossed and look forward to continuing

Just stumbled onto this thread. I remember when these cars were everywhere but 4-spds were unusual. Great save! I know it's been a while but are there any updates?
