Cam for the 1/4 mile
If you have ported heads and gear the rear end along with radials, what would be a better Cam? One that keeps the low end torque or one that has the horsepower up top? Wondering cause I daily my car and the guy that's gonna port my heads and spec my cam is telling me if I daily to go with a small cam but I feel like if you have gear and tire the big cam helps a lot in the quarter mile and since im young i feel i wont mind a wild cam on the street everyday. Any input or advice? Is driving a big cam really that bad to some people?

I have the TSP stage 3 cam in my daily M6 car. Its a pretty big cam and I even have stock 3.45 gears with a twin disc clutch. Its really not that bad as long as its tuned good. A bad tune can make you hate it. You should be fine, I sit in traffic almost everyday and I still love driving it.

BIg cams are very drivable with good tuning. Here is a list of the fastest cammed and or cam/head naturally aspirated gen5 Camaros. We power most of the fastest ones, not a knock against anyone, but our best advertisement is actual real world results!

What about the maintenance with a bigger cam? If that is your only vehicle and say you drive 15-20k miles a year, how often do you have to replace or check the valve springs?

I'm #15 on that list, I been dd'ing my SS3 for 2 years. I don't tend to put a lot of miles on my car, I'm only at 38K at the moment. But I'm thinking maybe to change valve springs next winter.

Bigger Cam
Hey John, this is Frank from earlier today. I know you can't have your pie and eat it too but, Would you take your car with a bigger cam say on a road trip? Say 8-10hrs away? Or would that introduce too much wear? I think I know the answer, what do you think?

Look long and hard at that top quarter mile list and ask yourself why would you buy anything other than a GPI cam? Clearly they've done their homework and development, and the results back it up.

I don't drive mine daily but I would if I was home to. I work in Beaumont, Texas but live in Clarksville Tn. My cam is a BTR stage 4 I have drove my car the 11 hour drive several times now without issue. The biggest thing is slow parking lot moving it does jerkand lerch quiet a bit. But I can live with it to have more power. M6 with 3.91 gears
