How hard is it to change the spark plugs on an LFX?

When I do my intake cleaning in the spring, I plan on doing an oil change & change the plugs afterwards. How difficult is it to get to the spark plugs? Do you have to get them from under the car, or is it easy to do it from the top?

Simple and straight forward. Remove/ unclip the harness from the coil pack, then there's a 10mm (i believe) bolt holding the ignition plug in place. After taking the bolt out, remove the coil pack and use a 5/8" spark plug socket to carefully remove the plug. All of the work is from the top and I would recommend OEM Acdelco. They are great quality and last a long time.

yes sir. Are you just wanting to change the plugs since you're doing the cleaning? I understand changing them is cheap maintenance but they are recommended to be changed at 100K if you weren't aware

It depends, I'm going to pull the plugs to make it easier to turn the engine & close the valves. If they are bad, I'll change them. By the time the weather changes & I'm ready to do the cleaning, I'll have about 56K on the car. If the plugs are bad, I might try to clean them or I might replace them, I don't know yet.

Gotcha. To my surprise, I was told our OEM plugs are iridium and can be found on amazon for 6-7$ a piece if bought separately last I checked.

if you are going to pull them, i would just replace them for the $42 in parts. That way you know the quality of the plugs you are putting back into the cylinder. Plugs are cheap. I just replaced the plugs in my 2011 Ecoboost F150 with 98K on them. They were missing enough to tell it when the cruise tried to keep up. they were $6.99 each for MC Iridiums.

I'm in the same boat, gonna be cleaning my IM soon and will be changing the spark plugs when I do. I found the AC Delco plugs on Amazon for $5.63 plus a $3 rebate per plug, so only about $16 for all six.

For that price, if you're taking the Original plugs out, it's a no brainer to go ahead and change them out. $18 for new iridium plugs is cheap
