2012 V6 Camaro Harmonic Balancer/Front Seal replacement
Didn't find anything really on these when I was wanting just a look to see what all I needed to do job. So here's a first:
Impact with 3/4 socket 1/2" ratchet/breaker bar. Seal puller GM Balancer puller (small one that arms go down and turn 90*, it hooks on the spindles of balancer) LS Balancer installer (put it in backwards, it works) GM Genuine Parts 11549124 Bolt GM Genuine Parts 12608750 Seal Technical Torque spec: 1: Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt to 74ft lb. 2: Tighten the crankshaft balancer bolt an additional 150 degrees. Remove intake tube, pcv hose and unplug maf, move out of way. Use 1/2" breaker bar on the belt tensioner, slip belt off balancer. Use 3/4" socket and impact to remove balancer bolt. GM Balancer Puller, let it turn and "lock" onto arms and ugga dugga off. Throw in oven, 300F. 20 min or so while next parts. Remove old seal, clean up inside area as needed. Install new seal. I used the balancer bolt and rubber hammer to slowly coax it in place flush. The balancer IS Keyed. Grab it from oven if it's been long enough. Slip it on, spin it until it fits in key. I tapped middle a little with rubber hammer to get it seated. Use the opposite side of the LS installer (ARES 15088 specifically what I used), the one with a bearing but i'm sure others will work. Use a crescent to turn bolt and balancer seats. See Picture, i would caption or like to insert them as writing but unsure on forum how. Once on, visual belt alignment. The balancer bolt is a grade 10.9 bolt, not TTY. I used the old one and impact to ensure seatment. Backed it out, put a small line of loctite on new bolt and sent it. Compact impact so not a lot; similar to using ARP or Grade 10.9 bolt on an LS. Obviously use the torque spec above though. Loosen belt tensioner, put belt back on. Reinstall Air intake tube. DONE. Whole job took about 30 min, most waiting on oven. Might not had to wait on oven, idk, just something I learned to do on my other car LS. Maybe this will help someone, i've not found any decent Public facebook groups like I have for Corvettes, private groups isnt as helpful since not searchable for the general person imo. |
