And you being a manual car like CD said, you can get away with a bigger cam without needing a big converter. And as for the manifold, the stock OEM's flow really good, so when you get one that is modded, it will flow much better, and I would do that before you do the headers. That way when you do tune for the headers, since you already have a ported TB, you will gaine the most in the flow in, and out the exhaust. Then when you have the time and bucks, do the cam swap. Some of the guys on this forum have went with small cams, and in hindsight, wished they would have went bigger!! But that choice is going to be up to you and what you want out of the car.
Appreciate the wisdom and advice you guys are sharing. Based on your's and CD's input for power adders, I feel locked in now on doing the rod mod first, then headers + tune, then cam + tune. I had to look up 'FBO' from CD's post (ugh... my limited social media / forum vocab). I do think I would probably go FBO for a bit, simply due to budget constraints. But definitely plan to get cammed eventually. Thanks for the great feedback!

That's what I did because I was working on a tight budget, a little at a time until I could do the cam and converter, then after a bit I added the big LOD manifold, which netted me about 37 more rwhp, but also moved the power band to the right a bit up to 7500. I did the TB, CAI, X pipe axle back first, no tune, was all good, then LT's and a tune for the engine and trans, still stock manifold, then later did the cam and converter, LS3 conversion, AFM/DOD delete, and all the rest of the package, tune, then after a while did the LOD manifold, and a re-tune. Finished now until I decide whether to boost or not. Thinking about a procharger, but at this point so far, am VERY satisfied with what I have already, and how she performs.

Thats what I did. Everything was slow and in stages. Money and warranty were big factors to me. The first 5 years of ownership, i only did an intake, ported tb and high flow cats basically. I found a used intake manifold about 3 years into ownership, sent it to Rick like two years later. Found headers used. Installed that all, scheduled a "calibration" day at Redline and drove it over there and drove it back. Then a year or two later put a deposit at Redline for my cylinder heads and cam. Enjoyed it NA for one year and then threw the boost at it. Two years after that purchased my shortblock.

Then with this shortblock, a few months after that purchase my mini dachshund needed back surgery. So couldnt put that in like I wanted. About 6 months after that purchased the cam for that motor and now just purchased my backhousings. If all goes well motor goes in this summer.

Exactly why I did mine in stages as well. I wanted to wait until she was paid off and the warranty was prety much over with before I cracked her open. Taht way my BIG car payment went into savings so I could do the cam and all.

Cool story! And yes, slow and in stages for me too. I hope your Dachsund is doing better after the surgery. That's nice you were able to do that level of care, not sure we could (although would want to). Will be excited to hear updates on the shortblock this summer!

That's a smart way to go and am sure would have done the same, had it been a new purchase for me.

I missed this post... that is crazy gains from that LOD! I may have asked this already (or maybe tried to ChatGPT), but what does LOD stand for and what is the concept behind it? Looks like similar path I will try to take, as you did. A procharger... whoah! Now that sounds fun.

LOD was a company that only did the intakes. They weren't around for very long but developed a hell of a product. I would have bought one back in the day but didnt have the money. They hardly lost any torque down low like other long runner manifolds and had the gain of a long runner intake. Most importantly they cleared the factory hood and no cutting of the cowl either.

Shes about 85/90%. She went from being a paraplegic, unable to use her hind legs at all to doing all the dumb dauschund things again. Just a little limp thing from her left leg.

Interesting about the LOD. Would be cool to see another aftermarket offering come out of similar design. What a great outcome for your Dachshund, well worth it!
