I looked into the SS's and side by side compared to it what i wanted extra on the 1LT i bought. It would have been an extra $8,000 to $10,000 more for the SS, plus the added insurance cost and fuel cost (pretty sure it recommends using premium fuel too). I would not have been able to afford it. I couldnt be happier with my choice

Time frame was #1 reason for me.
Dealer made me an offer I couldnt refuse for trade in on my 2007 Silverado 2500HD Duramax Quadcab 4x4...but it was kinda a "now or never" thing, because he bad another customer that wanted my exact truck and was willing to pay well for it. He knew I was looking to get out of the truck an into a Camaro, but at the time I had just paid off a buttload of bills and didn't have "spare" cash laying around for a downpayment beyond trade in. At the time, my truck payment was $564 a month, plus another $175 a month on insurance (my brother was on the same plan with a LOT of issues, I've since moved on to another policy by myself). I was managing ok with that payment\insurance, but would have been happier with a lower payment. I saw the LS there, which I opted for for a few reasons over the LT. #1. Lower price at the get-go (I paid just under 22k for the car, feb '10), leaving more money for mods (a stock car is a boring car, imo, no matter what it is). The extra cost of the LT over the LS was mostly items I would replace with aftermarket anyhow. #2. The LS wheels. I don't really like them, but I planned on making the car a daily driver, so I figured they'd be perfect for the winter months (NJ)...since I was planning on getting aftermarket wheels regardless of what Camaro I got, because I don't like the options Chevy gave us on that front very much. #3. I didn't want the RS package. I like the non-RS headlights better, and I have no desire for another leather interior (SUCKS in the summer, don't care what anyone says.) If I need heated leather seats, I have them in my '08 Cobalt SS. $4. The lack of downpayment cash at the time of the purchase, and the lack of "time" to save up a couple extra grand for one, is Primarily why I opted for the 6 over the 8. I did test drive both, though, and while the power of the 8 was fantastic, I was convinced I could match the 8's power in the DI 6 easily (the extra money that would have gone towards a v8 downpayment, could finance a SC/TC kit instead), and the 6 felt like it handled much better than the 8. The only thing I thought I would miss, was the v8 growl. Little did I know at the time that Chevy would screw us on this damn ECU, making FI extremely difficult. While I'll agree that a 425HP NA V8 is better than a 425 HP FI V6 in terms of general performance, and that the V8 sounds a lot better than a V6...I would feel more satisfied with the 425HP V6 than the V8. I love tech, and this motor (although, again, kinda nerfed by GM) has gobs of tech in it. I don't regret going v6...but I do wish we weren't being nerfed like this.

$$$$$$ if I had more of it a SS would be mine, but I like the V6, ample power, handles nice, and looks and compliments I get make me feel awesome. I love my car, best one I have ever had!!

Lets just say the color I wanted...Synergy was only supposed to come in V6 and short production schedule...Plus I do not need tons of HP...got 3 hopped up motorcycles in the garage for a need to speed issue...Plus I plan to buy the Z28 in 2012...

And YES I'm moding the hell out of my car, but lets think about this, if I had an SS I'd want more performance and mod that too, it doesn't matter if it has 500hp stock or 200hp stock, I'd still want to mod it. Agreed. Also I got a hell of a deal. However my next One will be either an SS or a Z28.

I think it is all about money really. Without taking that into consideration, who honestly would not want an SS??? In my opinion, if you can afford it and want it....then get it!!!! It is a much better base to start modding with, and it will sound/look better in the long run.

Buying a new car is a waste of money....but I fell in love with the style and build quality. Didn't want to spend 31k plus in this economy. I could live with 24K.
I was also impressed with the LLT. It is a more modern engine, and offers great performance for the displacement. Last edited by esperman; 11-30-2010 at 04:52 PM. |

i knew from day one i had to get the new camaro. i have wanted one for so long and this one is the best looking yet!! the LLT is an amazing engine and I think in time will have lots of upgrade options. it may be limited right now but soon it will open up. as for why, insurance was a big one for me. also I got an amazing deal on my LS that I just couldn't pass up.... I will be able to pay it off a LOT faster than it would take the higher level models (including the V8) and then in a few years i will upgrade when I can more easily afford the SS (especially when the Z28 comes along and everyone rushes to it)..... not having to run premium gas is nice though I run mid-grade.... so no real savings there really

For me, it was because it looked like the concept car sitting next to a production SS. Styling aside though, I just plain old couldn't afford it. The Insurance or gas. The Camaro is my daily and though I sometimes wish it had that SS growl, I still wouldn't have done it any different
Plus It's also faster, better looking, and cheaper on insurance than my previous car which I sold to essentially buy the Camaro. I'm still a young gun and the LLT is enough fun for me and then some.

I couldnt spend over 30k for my first car. My LS turned out to be around 28k, driving the V6 scares the hell outta me now with the power.
