Solution to rub marks & holes on '12 tops found

NOTE: This discussion may also apply to '11 tops. Check the part numbers mentioned with your local top shop/dealer.

As some of you know I have been working to find the correct part numbers for the retrofit to take our tops to the current design where the tops seem to be working properly.

The rub marks and holes are primarily a function of the arms (or Push Rods in GM speak)

The 2nd design arm part numbers are:

22903705 (Convertible Top Push rod - Left - 2nd design)
22903706 (Convertible Top Push rod - Right - 2nd design)

If your car was built before 4/30/12 GM suggests the following Right part number be used instead:

22772213 (Convertible Top Push rod - Right - 1st design). Note: This applied to my car.

So on my last new top I had the following main parts installed.

22985764 Black Top - 2nd design
22772206 Bow
22772205 Bow
22936377 Bow
22903705 Left Arm/Push Rod - 2nd design
22772213 Right Arm/Push rod - 1st design
22840146 Pump

The pics are below. The top looks great!

Sorry for the lint, etc. The iPhone6+ camera catches everything.

The new design appears to be much better than the original. I have put it through about 50 cycles with no rub marks starting as of yet.

Note: My parts friend says he believes the 22772213 will be superseded by the newer 22903706 as inventory becomes depleted. Since this concerns me I have decided to buy a 22903706 (approx ~$230) and just keep it for if/when I ever need to have this top replaced as my warranty will be up soon.

I did learn something during this process that may be the crux of dealers not being too enthused regarding these extensive top updates. It took my dealer's very experienced top technician approximately 20 hours to rebuild my top from the parts. GM only credits them 8 hours for the job. Needless to say, I'm very happy with my dealer. Why GM doesn't ship this as a complete assembly ready to bolt in ???????

that really does look pretty good. I wish you luck and it looks like you got a gem for a dealer. I found a good test is to ride a bumpy road with the top down. that's when it really eats if it's going to. I hope not. good luck

But where are the top down pictures? My dealer has a top shop that did mine, but told me top & back windows can't be rolled down for a month. Service Rep told me last week that it would probably have to be adjusted after 30 days because he thinks its too tight. He said GM service told them 1 month also.

How long does the factory wait before putting new verts on the lot?

The top shop that did mine said to put the top down on the drive home. It was little tight when I picked it up but it did loosen up the first month. I don't have any rub marks and it still looks great.
