Correction. The ZL1 column is the total of all ZL1s (Coupe + Vert). So 3048 total ZL1s - 304 ZL1 Verts = 2744 ZL1 Coupes.

My M6 had TPW 12/5/2016 and ended up with VIN sequence # 170832. Although it was an early build it tells me nothing about where it stands among other ZL1s. If someone collected the data from all the forum members and put it in a spreadsheet sorted by S/N at least we'd have an idea of the relative build order. All I can tell right now from my VIN is that my ZL1 was the 832nd 2017 vehicle built at the Lansing MI plant.

Actually, I don't think you can even tell that from your VIN. The plant produces several different vehicles. You'd need to know the VIN of the very first 2017 vehicle to come out of the plant in order to see where you fit into the sequence. There is a website for 5th Gen cars with a database as you suggested. However, I don't think anyone has started one for the 6th gens yet.

Judging by the 17xxxx sequence numbers for cars built in 2017 and the 18xxxx on the 2018 builds, I'm assuming the first 2 digits of the sequence number indicate the production year. I also assume the sequence number of the first vehicle (Cadillac or Camaro) that came off the line in 2017 was 170001. I did say the 832nd 2017 "vehicle", not Camaro or ZL1. I don't understand why you are arguing with my logic here. Do you know something I don't know?

Where's the link to the 5th Gen database you mentioned? Are you talking about the ZL1 Registry? That's only for 5th Gen ZL1s? I asked the maintainer about 6th Gens when I first got my ZL1 and he said he didn't think there would be one because the new ZL1s are not limited production and don't have their own SN.

The 17xxxx doesn't mean 2017. That would mean they could only make 9,999 cars at a given plant before running out of VINs. That's just the sequence number according to the plant. There are other digits in the VIN that signify the year. So you can't determine much from that unless you have access to GM's databases.

There are a couple of registries that people started. One is ZL1 specific but I've seen others too (like http://www.camarossregistry.com).

Okay, when I first looked at this thread and some other VINs the 1st two digits seemed like more than a coincidence. Now that you mention the limited number that the remaining digits could represent (less than 10K) that makes sense. I didn't realize the model year was coded in too (10th digit according to the GM Decoder). Sure would have been much simpler if GM had serialized the 6th Gen ZL1s like previous model years.

Still haven't found a registry for the 6th Gens. Let me know when you find a one for the 6th Gen ZL1. No one's going to read through every post of related threads just to get a vague idea of where their car stands.
