Question for the Pros
I have an 2012 L99. I know I have an engine control module (ECM). Do I have a separate control module to control the transmission, or is it part of the ECM? Is it part of the transmission itself? Where does the little beggar reside?
I looked on the GM Parts Warehouse website (a forum sponsor, naturally) and could find only the ECM. All help greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, no prize for the right answer. Sorry. |

Yeah, they are separate and they talk to each other...far as I know in the auto trans cars, it's in the tranny pan as diamondmike said.

I have no idea...I guess you'd have to ask the parts guy at a dealer?
Is yours not working? Isn't the car in warranty?

im a tech for bmw and some of our cars use GM trannys, the trans ecu is built into the valve body, you can replace it seperately however after replacing it you have to program it to work with the vehicle. im assuming the camaro tranny will be the same

The control modules are VIN specific, so they can't really be transferred between camaros.

When I bought a spare 6L80 from a crashed Camaro all it required was to reflash the computer with HPT. Ran the spare while the original one was builg built by Circle D. They told me the TCM in the stock tranny was bad so I bought a new one from the dealer. Swapped the built tranny in and it is up and running without issue.
