Break In Period?!?!?!

I just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts of what a GOOD break in would be for the new camaro...I know some may have disbelief that it doesn't really matter but I disagree. I have read many threads on other cars break ins, but wanted to see what everyone else will do with their camaro once driven off the lot...

My plan is to have

500 easy miles...then do 3-5 WOT's during its trip up to 1500 miles...after that...all hell will break loose!!! Haha j/k but thats my plan...

I will be varying the rpms during the first few 100 miles with regular oil. Not quite at redline...but I'll get up there. The goal is to seat the piston-rings well at all speeds, and the worst thing you can do (so I've read) is to keep a steady highway speed, for instance. Turns out going easy can actually cause more harm than good in the long-run...Anyways, I'll switch to (or back to) synthetic, and have some fun.

From what i have heard, GM breaks in there motors before they are even placed in the vehicles, at least in the vettes, but its really more of a safety feeling for the driver but you should be able to drive it how you want right off the lot.

I'm going to vary my driving the first 2k miles always below 5k RPM though. After that I will drive however I feel, I will also put my car on the dyno after 2k miles.

In the owner's manual, Corvette with LS3 is 500 miles under 55mph. No full throttle starts, no engine braking downshifting - manual trans. 200 miles brake pad seating - light braking.

Now, I have no problem with everything except the keep it below 55 mph. Not many make that in a Corvette or Camaro SS.

Oh, and no constant speeds.

You don't really need to do much for break in these days. Just take it easy the first 500, don't hold a steady speed for a long distance. During the 500 miles get it out on the highway and do some 1/2 throttle runs up to highway speed then let off the gas and let it coast down in gear to 40 or so then back up. That helps seat the rings quicker.

First thing...READ THE OWNER"S MANUAL!!! It will tell you everything you need to know...

Mine says, keep it under 70, no full throttle starts, no downshift braking, vary your speed, no constant speeds and no hard braking for the first 500 miles.
Change your oil for the first time at 3,000 miles then as the oil life monitor indicates afterwards... (I usually change my oil at the 50% reading on the OLM)

Txturbo, why is it that you DO NOT want to hold a steady speed for a long period of time?
