Tremec TR-6060: Clutch slave cylinder shims
I have done a small bit of research regarding a variety of available sized shims, for the Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission. It seems that this is more relevant for aftermarket clutch (kits). Is it just the clutch kit in and of itself that throws off the crucial spacing/engagement of the CSC?
Would it matter what kind of flywheel is used, or whether the CSC is aftermarket or not? I figured the bone stock setup didn’t use any kind of shims, and I assumed replacing with a completely OEM setup would be fine as is; but I’d like to make sure. I’ve seen some cases where some setups have the CSC “over-extend” and then pop apart and fail (or something alone those lines). I’m also looking into possibly running a twin disc clutch setup, so I’m assuming the CSC might have to be shimmed in that case? I’m mostly planning to only stick to just factory/OEM (GM/AC Delco) branded CSC’s, so I’m not sure if that affects anything. |

There is a process for measuring the gap between the clutch slave cylinder and fingers on the pressure plate to make sure it falls within a set range. Even with all OEM parts, you should measure to confirm before reassembly but will probably be fine. Depending on what aftermarket parts you go with, some minor adjustment may be needed but there is no set formula.

Take the time to measure and shim it. Too many variables to just assume it will work. Its way easier than pulling trans again.

GM does not make clutches; they buy them from Luk, which are good but not great. I have installed three clutches in my two cars and never needed to use a spacer, but I always measure; otherwise, every little thing the new clutch does will have me questioning if it is set up correctly.

What’s the best way to measure the spacing? I’m still learning, so I’m kinda lost/confused. Any tools, like measuring calipers, that I might use for this process? Maybe some kind of feeler gauges?

Be aware the procedure to measure a TR6060 is vastly different from a T56.
McLoed says no shims needed, I didn't shim mine and it's fine. When you add a shim it raises in the clutch pedal travel where it engages.
