Street racing kills two in a 2010 Camaro

Well, we have a track in our town that has street legals every Friday, which is to help curb street racing but it didn't help in this case:
Quote:
I didnt see it happen but I saw the aftermath.
Anyways at about 10:30 In Mission on N. railway street two cars decide to street race just after coming back from the Mission friday night drags (they where racing on the track to might I add).
Me and friends where about 2 blocks away at the local diner and hear tires screaching and Engines reving, didnt think to much of it, then all of a sudden we see about 7 cop cars go flying down the road, a friend turns on his police scanner and hears there are two cars street racing, one crashed and people where stuck inside while the other car fled the sceen.
Out of curiosity we head down there to see by far the worst accident I have EVER seen. The car was so bad you couldnt even tell what it looked like, it looked like someone turned the car inside out.
My brother who works for a flagging company got called to the sceen to work, I later text him and asked what happend.
The car that crashed was Going over a little hill and turn going 100K lost control got air on the hill flipped completly sideways went flying about a half block down went through a pole broke the car in 3 halfs and hit a building causing the cars cab to smah in. Both people in the car died right away, the Engine in the car went flying 50 feet down the road.
Very sad but very real street racing is a serious bad thing like i said never seen anything worse then that. The even sader thing was in that the car which was a brand new Camero was just at the mission track racing.
I havent seen anything on the news yet about it so i thought i would just share and hopefuly this makes people that are dumb enough to street see that, that could have been them!.
the pictures i have are burry but those are the only ones i have
the car is on the right you cant even tell what it was its so sad RIP to the two people that passed away in the accident. and Just thank god no one els was hurt.

:(

This is what happens when people drive at excessive speeds on public roads, most the time driving way beyond what their actual skills would allow.

Especially in the area they did it in. There is a hill right at the beginning of the street (which is what caused him to go airborne) and then it's got lots of side streets and turns. Idiots.

One was born in 1988 and the other '89, so they were both really young.

This is also why I shake my head when people buy their teenage children 400HP cars. Very sad.

Very true... Although I did street race too in my younger years, it was always out in the boonies... still at least two lives were in danger. Tragedies like this are a sad part of the current musclecar revival, and it is probably only a matter of time before governments step in.

Also alarming are the new crop of "top-enders" who feel compelled to "see how fast she'll go" on public roads. As I posted in the following thread, there is no walking away from a 150-170 MPH crash... it does not matter if it was caused by lack of driver skills, road conditions, a wind gust, or whatever other hazzard... you are just as dead!

http://www.challengertalk.com/forums...ets-see-31985/

The current crop of musclecars have the power, but not the suspension or aerodynamic qualities to go 150+ MPH. If you are thinking about doing it, are you prepared to pay the price... or worse, look another family in the eyes and explain why their loved one is dead...?

Just my thoughts on the matter...

Completely disagree.

No offense to you, lil chef...but...

People of all ages street race. Young AND old. The only thing people gain with time is experience and sensability (which is why insurance companies lower rates by 25 years old...the human brain...taking risks, etc). However, older folks still do it too. FACT.

THIS is why we don't allow the street racing stories on our boards. Someone sees a story, wants to share another story, another person sees it, wants to top it, try it, next thing you know, everyone is trying to top another persons story about street racing.

We won't allow street racing stories on our boards....PERIOD.

Track stories all you want. Street? NO.

THIS IS WHY.

Perfect example of what could happen if you decide to street race.

Now...I wonder if either of those two were members here on our boards...

Sad. How many Camaro-related fatalities since its release? Owners, show some restraint..leave it on the track! I personally do not want my premiums to go up due to this car being a nationally high risk vehicle!:(

according to mercuryman96 there was only 2 camaros there that day his and Heliwrench and both of them didn't street race that day so i think the car is mixed up with a different one.
we talked about it in this thread
