PTM system question

I know this has been brought up in the past and I've done some searching and reading about it to better understand the system. But I'm still a little confused.

I just picked my car up this past weekend; it's a slightly used 2013. So I've been messing around with all the PTM modes and what not. In Mode 5 Race, it says that Active Handling is OFF, but this morning when I tried it in 2nd gear some stability system was still there to keep the car in check after if got a little sideways. If the stability system is still on, why does it say OFF for the Active Handling in Mode 4 and 5? Again sorry if I'm being a noob or beating a dead horse here.

hold down the buttom for 7 seconds if you want active handling and TC off. in the PTM modes they just get loser they don't really turn all the way off.

just be sure you are used to the power level of the car or in a place that is forgiving if you turn it all off. I find this car more perdictable than my Z06 but with everthing off you still hvae to be up on the wheel and ready.

Gotcha... but why then if the Active Handling is still on does is say ON in the lower modes but OFF on the higher ones?

thats a question for GM engineering. I have felt the same thing you have though. there is no way mode 5 is all off. maybe it is T/C kicking in and not the active handling. not sure.

just hold it down for 7 seconds then drive it and there is nothing to save it you is just old school you better do your part.

I don't know why either, 4 & 5 say active handling is off, because the nannies still interfere. I'm still trying to have the nerve to experience the performance benefit of the PTM's. I've tried, on a nice hi-way curve 90* merge, but always chicken out before the system takes over. It's going to be my number one goal when the weather improves. In the Owners Manual, pg 9-40, it states; "after entering a curve and at the point where the driver would normally start to increase acceleration, the accelerator pedal can be FULLY pressed. The PTM system will modify the level of engine power for a smooth and consistent corner exit". This is my new goal, to experience just that, I tried it before, can't remember which mode I was in, but the next time I'll try starting with PTM 2. Goal: not to chicken out and let the PTMs do their job!

That makes it a little more clear. I'll be able to fully try the system out in May when I take it to a road course in GA.

Just a word of advice from a recent experience. When you switch the "nannies off" be aware that this car will get tail happy quickly and oversteer on you due to the torque kicking in down low when you have the throttle down(no lift shifting). You can feel how light the steering wheel gets with driver aids off. Better have reflexes like Ayrton Senna's qualifying lap at Monaco! I am just now understanding how to steer with this car thru turns, it's a handful. Having a light throttle foot helps. Be careful with them off until you learn the car.

Oh yeah... I fully plan on using Mode 4 and 5 on the course. Don't need to see what a wall feels like lol.

Just remember, they still can't overcome physics!

I can hold the button down for 7 secs in my Silverado and it says everything is off, but the nannies kick in when I try to do doughnuts in the snow. Apparently OFF has multiple definitions.

I've never tried turning it all off in the ZL1 yet...does it really turn everything off?

Yes it does turn everything off so be cautious! it's a sports car built for the track vs a pickup truck buily for work and hauling things around so thats probably why off means "off" in the ZL1 vs your truck. You wanna drift or do burnouts in the ZL1? Turn everything off and have a blast

I have no need to turn it all off, I was just curious since my truck wasn't completely off. Thanks.

I've taken it down the 1/8th with all the nannies off and in PTM 5. I prefer PTM 5. Like the post above said, these get tail happy in a hurry and mode 5 helps me stay straight, even though the tires still spin going down the 1/8th for a good portion of the ride, but that's because the factory tires suck.
