I have the MGW and it is very nice and I like it because it comes with its own mounting bracket which is a lot better then the stock unit.

BUT! I have driven a few camaros with the aftermarket Hurst shifter and I have to say I love that one too. It's a shorter throw then the MGW and its bad ass but it uses the original shifter bracket assy.

I have the Factory installed Hurst and i love mine. But if i were to change it, i would have to go with the aftermarket Hurst.

My concern with the Hurst is 2 fold. The first is noise. In the Mustang world this was a principle complaint. It was common for them to rattle, and I see at least one response here the same for the Camaro. Also, I saw at least 2 different videos on YouTube where the Hurst shifter had just tons of sideways slack in it! Maybe these were incorrect installations or something. I do like the Camaro Hurst shifter knob (which seems to be rather rare?).

It is nice that MGW will install for free (availed myself of that on the Mustang). And I too couldn't find anything I didn't like about my MGW shifter... just wondered if that was also true on the Camaro MGW.

I also saw a LSR Tri-Ax one that was just the shaft replacement. Had anyone used that? http://www.lsrperformance.com/drivet...vy-camaro.html

Thanks for the feedback so far... I'll be interested to see where consensus ends up on this!

And does anyone want to voice an opinion on Barton vs. MGW? The Barton apears well manufactured like the MGW.

I like the look of the Hurst branded OEM shifter (more specifically, of the shifter knob), and the much lower price of the aftermarket Hurst is compelling.

Looks like the GM optional Hurst shifter is an entire assembly (and is therefore more expensive) and is about a 22 degree reduction, while the aftermarket one is only the shaft and is about 44 degrees of reduction?

It also looks like the GM optional one has an "isolated" top half of the shaft (which I guess reduces the noise transmitted when your hand rests on it)?

I believe the GM optional one is also less notchy feeling than the aftermarket one?

Does anyone have a strong opinion on which of these is better and why? And can anyone tell me what the part number is for the GM optional Hurst?

In any event, I think I will retain the original shift knob (or the Hurst branded one) because I like the subtle nature of upgrading the shifter with little or no visual indication.

Thanks for all the input so far... still on the fence with no clear winner in this dialog thus far!

This is why I bought the MGW and I love it.

MGW + Redline D4 ATF really helped my shifting at the strip. Centerforce dual friction clutch with 29 lb billet steel fly wheel.

Hurst comes with two shafts. Flat for their knob or a round that will allow you to use the factory knob and boot so it retains the stock look, but 44% reduction in the throw.

Depending on who you order through, some places include the "skip shift eliminator" plug so you don't have that pesky problem with the 1-4 low speed shift requirement. Plus, Hurst just lowered the price so its a win win.

If you don't get the plug, it can be "tuned out" when you get your car tuned.

Welcome to the dark side.

Well out it's all opinion but for what it's worth, went from a Hurst Billet Plus 2 to MGW and have not looked back. MGW shifts are far better with smoother engagement and less noise. My wife agrees and enjoys driving the car much more now. On the track the MGW has resulted in more positive feeling shifts. I liked the Hurst (especially the old school look) but I love the MGW.
