Dude, my definition of " a brilliant plan " would be for GM to avoid mistakes to begin with. Building a Caprice is a mistake. They could use their resources in much better places/ways than that horrid POS. The CTS-Coupe, absolutely. The G8/rebadged as a Caprice. NO WAY!

You're not saying why it is a bad idea. Critically, the G8 is one of GM's most well received products behind maybe the CTS. Give it Chevy's marketing dollars and dealer network and the sales will be there. The car is basically developed, so minimal costs there. The CTS coupe is on its way too. So can you please tell me specifically why rebadging a well-designed, well built car is a mistake? And why you consider it a POS?

I want a new caprice SS. It doesn't sound like he's completely killing the Z28 to me.

Lutz is Nutz if he thinks a re-branded G8 will satisfy me while relegating an Icon like the Camaro to a turbo-garbage 4banger. I'll start looking at Fords!

This may show my ignorance of Chevy history but whenever I see the word "Caprice" I think the hideous, gray tank my grandparents had when I was younger.... IMO certain names should just be let go. Give the Chevy G8 a new name.

You know, the problem with people on this site is that they don't realize that products like the Camaro can only come about if other products are successful. The G8 has already been proven to be a highly regarded vehicle of which sales are finally starting to pick up. People on this site, however, don't see that. All they want is their precious Z28 or their precious V8 engine, but what good are these wants if GM doesn't have the money to build them? If the Caprice is a success (which, with Chevy's marketing dollars and image, it should be), then GM will make a ton of profit off them and maybe can build a Z28. Like I've always said, there are the "car guys" and then there are the "finance guys," and letting either one gain too much control will run GM into the ground.

It may be a simple rebadge, but considering Pontiac doesn't EXIST anymore it's not like rebadging something like a Solstice as a Sky.

I'm for just calling it what it is: a Commodore.
Chevrolet Commodore LS, Chevrolet Commodore LT, Chevrolet Commodore LTZ, Chevrolet Commodore SS, blah blah blah. Works.

I think it would be better off as a Commodore as well. I can't comment for other people but when I hear "Caprice" I think "meh". Commodore is a much better name IMO and it fits the whole "C" name theme.

Old news to me... about the Caprice that is! I've known for a couple of years now that it would be returning back when rumours of a V8 Chevrolet Sedan would once again hit the showroom floors. The Impala was too great of a success as a front wheel drive car to risk going to rear wheel without having a proper front driver as well. The Caprice was only logical since it was always rear wheel and considered a step up to the Impala and Bel-Airs of the 80's. Now I will have something from Chevrolet to buy again!
Camaro SS ( 2010 ) and a ( 2012 ) Caprice Classic LTZ .. Sweet as it would be my 5th Caprice ... 1976, 1978, 1981, 1983, 1985 all were purchased used, now I can get one new ! Long live Chevrolet ! http://www.holden.com.au/vehicles/Caprice |
