I do remember this sort of head unit problem with my 2005 Cobalt. The head unit would stop reading CDs. In 2005, not all of the head units had an aux jack, so the only thing that could really mess up was the radio, and it did all the time. I wonder why GM runs everything through the radio if the thing is going to break like that all the time. Maybe GM needs to demand higher quality from its head unit suppliers.

Somebody else had a problem with this and come to find out they weren't pressing the cd/aux button 2x to get to the USB port. Pressing it once gets to the aux input, 2x for USB port.

Why mess with a car that has a warranty??? Take it to the dealer and say fix this!!! This car is backed by Obama for God sakes I'm sure Government Motors can fix the problem homey.

i got the 1ss. i don't think it came with a usb port. since it's offered there's a usb plug in in the back of the radio??? that may be one of my first upgrades if so, because i have no cd's because i run my ipod off of my in-dash tv in my truck.

It's not as simple as running a cable from the back of the radio to a USB port. There's another module that's required to do the USB functionality, which is not available on the 1SS. You do have an aux jack though to hook your iPod audio up to, you'll just have to control the iPod using its controls instead of the radio's.

Try disconnecting it for a few ignition cycles. If the PDIM gets a chance to reset, that should fix the problem. At least unplug your Zune before the car sits overnight and let the car start up with it disconnected and then connect it up. Let me know if that revives the Zune connection.

That worked... do you think this was on the zune side or the pdim side? If it is the PDIM side, could this be this something that perhaps could be resolved with a software update?

It's on the PDIM side. About the update...that's a great assumption...stay tuned. For now, you can probably get around it by unplugging before you turn the car off, and then connecting it up after you start the car. I know that's a pain, but hopefully it's just temporary.
