2019 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack: 1320 Edition

Dodge at it again giving a real drag pack on a production car with warranty. When will GM/Ford get serious about it too?

It's cool, I guess. Not sure how many people will buy this car, especially with just one seat. I'm guessing the seat will be an option like it was in the Demon. Personally, for that price I'd rather just get widebody Scat Pack.

I would think that’s a good thing on a vehicle clearly built for one thing. One seat?

The “1320 edition” was clearly way cheaper to make then the “it actually turns edition” which threatened to bankrupt FCA.

That’s what gets me with the show “Street Outlaws”. They are supposed to be street legal, but clearly some are no way legal. I’m glad they have a controlled environment for it as street racing is just plain stupid.

It won't be a great handling car until they do a complete redesign. They're just getting the most out of that tired old platform.

They keep selling the shit out of them though so I guess they're doing something right.

With a very large chunk of those sales going to rental fleets

I read through the entire article and it is essentially a "Baby Demon" with the NA 6.4L...
-Slicks
-Can add more seats for $1 each
-Auto only
-Transbrake
-etc., etc., etc..

I've said it numerous times before: FCA's finances are in the toilet. They have tried to sell Dodge countless times over the past 5-10 years and nobody will buy them. With this being said, they don't have the money to engineer a new car, so they have to make due with the Challenger platform. Imagine if they still had all of the money that was wasted on engineering and designing the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart, only to have them last 6 years and 3 years respectively.

Ok, and? There are a lot of Camaros and Mustangs that go to rental fleets too. Sales are sales and around here, I see a lot more Challengers on the road than Camaros or Mustangs.

Fleet sales don’t usually make money as they are heavily discounted.

I also see more Challengers & Mustangs. That’s because the new Camaro is over priced and ugly!

A lot less Camaros.

Sales are not just sales...they don't mean everything. Profits do. Would you rather sell 500 of something and make a grand off each, or 2000 of something and make $200 off each?

(answer: the former)

Percentage of Total Sales that are Fleet/Rental 2017
Camaro 4%
Mustang 26% (+22%)
Challenger 29% (+25%)

Yes a sale is sale, but fleet sales are nothing more than a way to make your product appear as if it is flying off of the shelves.

Hypothetical situation: 50 car enthusiasts are in the market for new rides. 35 of the people each buys a Camaro and the other 15 each buys a Mustang. 35 sales for GM, 15 for Ford. Enterprise needs some new rentals, so they place a call to Dodge for 250 V6 Challengers. It doesn't look too pretty now, does it? Sales numbers can easily be manipulated to make it appear that you've really got a hot item, when in fact, Enterprise just needed some new inventory.

As others have said, fleet sales are always heavily discounted because you're buying "in bulk" essentially.

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you are saying, but....

Not really that simple especially in the car business (but other businesses as well) as there are many more avenues of profit other than the car itself.

In addition if you are in a business where word of mouth means a lot I'd rather have 2000 people singing my praises vs 500.
