Unhappy Strange AC Situation

Hello, new here, been checking these forums for help with my 2012 LS for years and finally joined!

Recently my AC went out, was only blowing hot air, figured I needed to charge the refrigerant.. no success. Was worried about it being the compressor after that maybe the blend door. Took it to firestone (not my first choice but options we limited). They said my Airbox was messed up, which required pulling my window, ripping my dash apart, etc... 1500-2k dollars of work that they them selves could do. However they kinda got my car blowing cool air, kinda.

The passenger side blows cool or cold (depends on the day). The driver's side blows hot. I've tried ever combination of controls and pulling fuses. Nothing. Stays the same.

Blend door problems I've found seem to have fixed airflow one way or another (hot or cold). I've never seen anything about both sides blowing different that can't be fixed with a fuse reset.

Has anyone experienced or fixed this? Is there anything I can look for to diagnose. I wanna be sure about what it is before I start replacing parts or cutting into the car (if it's blend door)

Thank you all for your time and I'm excited to be a part of this community.

Ummm Firestone has warranty work. Bring it back to them. Tell them it’s not right. To fix it like it was supposed to be fixed the first time.

Lots to read here:

Heater Blend Door Database

In particular the one about:

AC warm from driver’s vent, cold from passenger vent.

Sorry for the late follow up, hadn't had much time to really get after it until today. I'd did turn out to be a broken blend door. Thanks for all of your input!

That sucks. Because of all the blend door issues, I keep the temp control 2-3 notches off max cool.

Yep. In fact, I don't even touch my AC save for natural disasters (muggy rainy days or my wife is in the car ). I don't even know if it works, to be honest, since it's been forever since I used it.

Happy to say I can put the temp control basically anywhere I want. Bypass valve took care of that. Although, I still keep the control the “3 clicks from max cold” anyways. But, now the AC is ice cold when I need it.

My friend is looking at this Camaro and the owner described the same issue. Hope it's just the blend door. He's ditching the truck and found this neat Camaro. We'll install the brake pads and mud tires on the truck tomorrow before the new owner can fetch it and then we'll take a closer look at the Camaro LT.

I bought myself a stack of blend doors lol. Think I ordered 4-5 from Rock Auto a few months ago. I got worried since GM has a habit of discontinuing certain parts after a while.
