New exhaust. It’s time

Hello all. I have a 2010 SS. Orig owner and am finally looking to replace exhaust to a more aggressive one. I would really like something that I can change the tone if possible. DO NOT WANT CUT OUTS. Been there done that. Thinking cat back also. Any thoughts or ideas?

There’s two ways you can go. Many will say start from the block and work your way back, meaning headers then work on everything behind that. If you’re not wanting to do headers, which you really should get some headers regardless, then I’ve been running Solo’s Mach XL catback for years and love it. It’s drone free so that’s a MAJOR benefit, but it also sounds like an old school muscle car, IMO. It’s docile at idle, but definitely can tell you have a V8 versus the factory exhaust, and loud when you’re really into the throttle. I actually convinced a neighbor of mine to sell his Lancer EVO after he and I were messing around on the highway and I stood on it and went by him. He bought a used C6 a couple weeks later.

I’d still recommend Solo Performance. Their Mach XL catback is freaking awesome.

If you don't want power but want to sound like you do just get a flowmaster or magnaflow axle back, they sound good but won't do nothing for performance.

Look through here, and on youtube until you find something you like. The first exhaust mod I did was the Pypes Pypebomb axleback. Sounded really good and no drone. They aren't as cheap as they were when I got mine 11 years ago.

Solo performance catback if you just want to sound great with no drone. I have long tubes and Flowmaster - sounds great but sometimes the drone sucks and it’s loud at all times.

What you're asking for is pretty tough to do. You want to be able to change tone without adding cutouts. How would the tone be able to be changed if there wasn't some sort of cutout? I assume you just don't want the loudness of the cutout? So Ashen99 is right. Get an NPP exhaust off of a ZL1 and do all the work required to set it up. The open pipe portion of the setup will be somewhat quiet because, again assuming here, you still want your cats so they have some muffling effects. The NPP won't necessarily operate automatically like it does on the ZL1 because the vacuum actuators are controlled through the ECM and FPCM and you don't want that wiring nightmare. I'm sure you could somehow rig something up though to control the vacuum actuators though a switch in the cabin tho.
Good Luck, Let us know what you come up with.

My car was the test car/design car for QTP cutouts. They lasted maybe a year before they rusted out and leaked. Had them replaced and lasted maybe 6 months. Sounded like crap when closed. I’m sure the technology is different now, but don’t want to throw money away.

This is the only way you will find what you want on "changing" the tone when you want.

Pretty raw. Personally I really like the Corsa sound for our cars. I have some Flowmasters layin around in the garage, but I am not a fan, thats just me though. The Solo sounds great too
