This worked to solve the issue and took all of five minutes.

I disconnected the plunger wire and so far so good. Any long term problems with leaving that disconnected?

If you pull the plug does that mean the key can be put into the off position and removed when in gear?

Update: it was the shifter, not the solenoid

I ended up replacing the solenoid and the problem continued. Bit the bullet and took it back to the dealership. They replaced the shifter and solved the problem. They said it was an $800 repair. Luckily I bought the extended warranty so I only had to pay a deductible.

Wife's 2014 Camaro has had it happen twice. It's at the dealer now. First time it was under warranty. This time it's not. Quote was $550 to replace the shifter

yep, second time for mine too.see the video on page 3,takes a few minutes and saves a lot of money.you do have to remember not to turn the car off and remove the key while driving but i dont consider that to be problematic.

Read these second time around problems, I feel like this fix is looming in my future as well.

Meet the new shifter. Same as the old shifter. We don’t get fooled again. Come on, GM.
