I promised I wouldn't ask the question...
But, I'm trying something different and I'd like some simple opinions. I want a smallish cam with good torque and good driving manners and not having to go dual valve springs and have to replace in 20k. So I went a different direction that appeals to me. No need to get technical, just what do you think.
CAM Motion 220/226 .558/.536 +3 115 LSA.. should be stout just not overly. I'll be burying this over time as I'm in no hurry because the 3.91's really woke it up. With only 36k on the clock I see no need for lifters or oil pump. 5/16 ,080 hardened pushrods and timing cover gasket. Probably Joe Gibbs for break in oil. Only thing I'm on the fence about is an oil pump. Always used conventional motor oil an had no issues. If I do replace would it be correct to use the melling high volume pump? Thank you for your input. Bill

I would put the Melling pump in regardless. I had an LS3 fail at 70k because the stock oil pump relief stuck open.

Melling is relatively cheap insurance while you are that far in.

Since the car only has 36k miles on it , it will take you over 5 years before you put another 20k on. Why not go dual for safety reasons? And plenty of people don’t change them out every 20k. Just my opinion.

I'm not against duals. I just think it overkill for my cam. And I do plan an many road trips now that im retired...so miles will go on quicker. But i will think about it an ask my builder.

Melling 10295 is the pump I have in my L99, and it is the one my shop uses to replace the "failing" LS3 pumps. Also if you do decide to go with the dual springs, you will have more "seat" pressure on the valves which in turn will make sure they always close and seal properly, the singles will do it, but the duals will do it better I would think, and they would last longer too because they wouldn't have to work as hard. Just my thoughts.

If you wanna stay reliable and not swap out springs too often, good idea. Still , I would invest in a high quality springs/retainers $$$
You CANT cheap out on the Melling. Get the high pressure. Thats what have, its been great for 25k miles+ with 7100-7900 rpm for 3 years. My stock tensioner was broken at 25k miles ish on the car, pieces floating around waiting to cause a disaster. Just a little information for ya; I had 'regular' doubles springs with quality retainers and after one summer on a solid roller/.720 lift, the locks dug a little into the retainers and they were stuck so hard i had to cut some part of it to remove springs (heads on car, cyl 8). Yeah the parts were not up to the task, but all parts fail someday, keep that in mind. I would change the springs on your setup no later than 25k max.

They put the high pressure spring in it, not sure what color it is, but the instructions should tell you. At idle I'm sitting at 35psi, and cruising at around 1800-2000 I'm sitting at 55psi, cold startups it sits at 68psi and as it warms up to temp it will drop down to around 55-60ish..

Agreed, and do the oil pump. I remember a member that had Superman or something in his username and he had no miles on his LS3 and boom! Oil pump failure. His freaking catch can voided the warranty. Stupid GM smh. Do the oil pump!
