rear end vibration after braking rear right axel
So i broke my axel on a launch not a very hard one about 2800 rpm i had 335 tires at the time so it dead on hooked and snapped the axel.
Fast forward got new dss axels and i was getting a vibration under acceleration so i figured its the axels. go them rebuilt and also put a dss one peice driveshaft to rule that out. Now i only get the vibration around 80mph and up got it up to 160mph today and i think i was more scared about something coming apart from how bad the vibration was than the actual speed. anyone experience this car makes 750hp everything in the rear end is stock besides axels and driveshaft new parts installed AFTER it started vibrating -DSS driveshaft - toe end rods trailing arms - trans mount - differential oil change (no metal found) -road forced balanced tires -new pads all around - resurfaced all rotors -new twin dis clutch with new flywheel Last edited by LHRxDeadx; 08-30-2018 at 02:43 PM. |

Got the same exact problem. Faster u go the worse it gets. Changed axles and driveshaft and still the same. If u figure it out please send a PM with the answer. Thanks

What kind of frequency was the vibration? Did it feel more like tire (axle) RPM or higher like a driveline? A tire and axle at 80 mph would be APPROX 1000rpm and a driveline more like 2500rpm.

only thing that I can come up with is the hub bearing...is it possible that the axle breaking placed additional stress on the bearing causing it to start "failing"...
other than suspension components that are out of whack but that should be caught by a good alignment... I would say look at the differential too but that vibration would not be localized to the right rear... hub bearings are relatively inexpensive and easy to replace...good luck OP! peace...

a lot of variables. i used to have a vibration at 80mph and up. Couldnt find it no matter what i did. Changed axles (to brand new OEM 1LE Axles). Changed rear hubs (Brand new OEM GM hub assemblies). Changed trailing arms and toe links and outer TA bushings. (BMR). I even got a Z28 complete differential installed.
it ended up being the driveshaft so based on my experience and since it did it at the same speed, id suspect your driveshaft is out of balance. a hub bearing will "hum" if its worn. Been there. Done that. Replaced them both. One at 50K and the other at 56K

Since you were driving it hard enough to snap an axle, the next weak link to look at is the flex couplings on the prop shaft.

but im not so sure that the 1 pc driveshafts like the OP has have the flex couplings. i could be wrong though

ive got a brand new dss drive shaft maybe 30miles on it will be checking diff today and hubs
the vibration is from the rear over all not just one side you can feel it through the seats once you get up to 80 |

Did you replace the flex coupling "guibo" and bolts when you replaced the prop shaft?

well looked under the car to find almost all the bolts loose on the driveshaft. i just used the dss bolts that came pre locktied but i guess it wasnt enough. got new bolts and used the red locktie and vibration got significantly less but still a there over 80mph not as bad tho.
