Ever wish you'd kept the V6?

Noticed it was an older thread. Just leave it in R when you park like the owners manual states. Or 1st gear like I do. I engage it once in awhile just to make sure it's used. Weird things I've had happen: gearbox stuck in the "economy mode" 1 to 4. Goofy thing is I still have not bought the bypass, cause I always shift above 1800.

Ugh I snapped my cable the other day. I was in the car with my girl and pulled the lever up and it snapped. She said she didnt know whether to complement my 'strength' or make fun of me for breaking my car like an ape. lol

How much did this repair cost? I'm dreading taking it over to the dealership.

Sorry for late late late response, but it was all covered under warranty!

Exactly same thing happened to me last Wednesday as I was stopped by the air hose at a gas station.

Just pulled the lever up, as usual, and half way up... it went limp!

I heard something solid and heavy hitting the metal bottom inside the central console and then rolling around for a few secs.

Took it to the shop, where they used an endoscope to look inside without disassembling the whole central console (I just took out the sides and the rear piece).

They confirmed the cable went busted, but at least it remained inside the console, so it is not dangling beneath the car, which would have been a real cause for concern.
Also, they discovered one of the rear cables is seriously stretched so I'll have to replace the whole system.

Just above 19,000 miles. Only one owner (me) who doesn't abuse the parking brake. Go figure.

Yea, I think mine went at 29k.

GM does some thing real well, but then it's beyond obvious the things they don't. I have a 2002 Maxima (com car) and the thing has gozillian miles on it. Parking brake still tiff as new.
