Stock tires F1's
Looks like I will get through this season on these factory supplied f1's.. I don't think I'll put new ones back on.. Seems to take way to long to get them warmed up to stick. Anyone else feel the same about these tires?

Takes about a lap to get them sticky. there's better tires but for the price the G2 there about as good as it gets.

They do seem to be holding up very well on mine to. Just takes to long on the street to get warmed up. what if I cleaned them with some alcohol? The prior owner did not really drive the car.

Best track oriented street tire for the money...I like the Michelin Super Sports for their long life and wet traction ability...but the f1's my choice between the two for track days hands down unless it's a wet track.

5k miles so far on mine, and I have noticed a bit of excessive wear on the outside of the front left, but we'll see how that goes.
I dunno, they're slippery when cold, but seem to be like flypaper when warmed up. I'm sure there's equivalent (at least) out there, but I'm still inclined to just replace them with the same thing when these wear out.

Also get 19 x 11" rims and run the Kuhmo V720s. Freaking killer handling performance and grip.

A friend was over last night and came up with a good idea. Install a small reservoir with water in the engine bay and run lines to back tires with small nozzles in the wheel well to squirt the tires. The water in the res should warm up quick in the bay allowing a few squirts of water and a quick burn out should get them tacky right away. I don't drive my car as a dd so might consider this...

If you are not tracking it there are plenty of options but like others have said they are a great tire on the track and really reasonably priced.

I have been running the Hankook RS3s V2 in 285/20s for autocross for almost 2 seasons now and they have been fantastic. I haven't done a track day on them so I can't comment on how they will perform there but for autocross they are probably the best tire available on a 20in rim. I also have the option to go to a 305/20 in the Hankooks if I want as they will fit with a 5mm spacer up front. (but don't quote me on the spacer size) Due to class restrictions for F-Street in SCCA I can't go to a wider rim but I can go up or down an inch in diameter and if I had the money I would go down to 19in rim and get the Bridgestone RE-71r in 285/19s as they seem to be consistently about 1 second faster than the Hankooks from SCCA Pro Solo driver testing. (they don't make them in 20in sizes yet) What that would mean for track day/road racing I have no idea but they are options to consider.

I won't be replacing the F1's. Either Michelin Pilot SS or Hankook.

F1's for the price, Hankook RS-3's for the change and reasonable price and performance, and the Pilots for the wear and wet surface. Also the P-Zeros for a all around track and street use application.
Also the Toyo's are a very good choice for track use only but from those that have them are not friendly on the street for ride and noise. They are not DOT approved as well if anybody cares about that. I did run and replace the F1's with the RS 3's version 2 and had great warm-up and traction, wear was very good as well on my track day at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. |
