Shifter in the Manual??

I have a question about the shifter. Is there a factory "short throw" Hurst type option? I'm also hoping the shift ball comes off like the 4th gen. I had an 8 ball on mine, it looked pretty cool, and it felt better in the hand. I may look into various styles of the 6 ball (ie colors.)

A short throw kit has been mentioned as an accessory. I'm keeping an eye out for more word on this as well. Would love to have one myself, as long as I can use the stock shift knob (love that look!).

Yeah, I don't dislike the stock one, its just that I had a pool ball on my 4th gen, and I liked the size of it for my hands.

I really would have liked to see an auto shifter in one of the reveal RS's. Just really want to know if its the same as the prepro one.(probably will be)

I dunno about the short throw hurst option but you can almost always change the ball.

I knew I saw it someplace...
Performance parts - numerous performance-enhancing components, including a tuned air intake, cat-back exhaust system, a Hurst short-throw shifter as well as more traditional GM Performance Parts.
http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro/insi...y/?id=cid00018
Could either be ordered thru Dealer parts dept. or any selling GMPP parts.

Shifter is only a basic lever, just like a pry bar. If it's short throw, (shifter ball moves 4" during shift compared to factory 6", these are random numbers just for comparison.) Shifter moves 4" just a hair faster than it does 6", but it's also just a bit harder to shift. Quality of the shifter makes a big difference too.

I don't know about the Hurst, but I put a Pro 5.0 in my '97 Z and was night and day compared to the stock unit. Smoother, shorter and more solid shifts and has a design feature that virtually eliminates the "MISSED" 2nd to 3rd shift. Great product for around $180-$200 and about an hour of ur time. ")

I had an 8 ball on my 1971 Chevelle LT1 also, it was a great fit.

I would also like a short shifter but it might put more pressure on the linkage.

the shifter on my Z was real rubbery then I changed to a GMPP short throw. It was a lot better but believe it or not it did not fit in the car. GMPP shifter felt good, maybe a little too stiff. I switched to the SLP hurst. It was much better quality and the shifts we much tighter, more precise, stronger feel (than stock). When I turned in the lease i swapped the shifter back, it felt like I was rowing a boat.

I don't care what the shift length is so long as they offer the concept's shifter as an aftermarket option. I was really disappointed in the shifter we're getting stock.

I dunno - I think they did a really good job of carrying it over into production. The concept shifter would have been way too expensive to mass produce. I do like it though - but I really like the production leather wrapped shifter as well. Plus, I have a feeling the leather wrapped one would be more comfortable on a very cold/very hot day.
