8” components in the doors

Has anyone successfully done this? I’m having issues getting the door card back on. It’s hitting the change pocket that’s behind the speaker grill, and the lower mount that holds the white door pin. I’ve come too far to turn back now, and I’ve never done fiberglass, so I’m looking for any/all suggestions. I’m only rubbing by about 1” on each spot, if that helps...

I cant imagine that size speaker fitting in there without major mods to door panels, i have some Image Dynamics 6 1/2" in mine and i had to cut some of door panel away to get them to fit. 8" is monstrous compared to mine. Curious now to hear if anyone has actually installed some 8's and how much work was done to get them in. You could get some used door panels from Ebay and modify them to fit for a decent price though.

Not SPL brother. I have the speaker mounted, I just need to modify the “pocket at the bottom of the door by about an inch and a half, and one of the door mounts on the very bottom needs modified. I may just fill the entire pocket with wood, and glass over it. Thanks for the replies though!

Take a picture for us. I might be able to do something to it but I would have to be the person fabricating it. Maybe if I saw how it currently looks like, I might have some ideas. I've glassed door panels before.

Looking at your pictures, I believe the part with the white pin can be trimmed to fit and still able to save the pin but honestly, if it was me, I would just trim it off since there's that bottom screw that's inches away anyways. The part by the coin holder is going to be more challenging. If you decide to cut it, you'll need to lay fiberglass on the back side, fill in the front side with either glass or body filler but body filler might crack later down the road due to flex. I see that your baffle is pretty thick. Have you thought of removing the baffle and cutting the 6.5" hole bigger, more towards the front of the door panel(by the two pieces of deadener). to allow for you to mount your 8's without the baffle? Not sure if that made sense. I haven't tore into mine so I'm not sure how much clearance is in there.

I can’t go forward because the door card edge is there. I cut the metal, but had to cut the backside. I actually need to double the baffle to bring it further out toward the door card, I just stopped once I realized I would be hitting things...
