I'm assuming the 4200 quoted is way off.
Who says it needs to match the power to weight ratio of the GT500? Based hp lb/hp, the GT500 should smoke a CTS-V ... yet it doesn't.

I searched for the first few lines of that article ... this thread is the only thing that came up.

91- lets just say this article is legit. and the weight and those numbers are right. Why are you choosing performance numbers of one "test", with unknown weather and track conditions + Altitude, to make your choice? I don't know you but I'm not going to assume you know nothing about racing the 1/4 mile. but there are so many variables as to why they got 12.3 vs sub 12's. one test on a day of unknown weather conditions and track prep doesn't mean it's the end. . .we will see faster.

Actually I know a decent amount regarding Drag racing, and I am well aware the factors that ambient air, altitude, headwind, track prep, etc. play.
Not trying to sound like a know it all, but I get it.
What concerns me most is the weight. But to be honest, I think it no longer matters, found an EXTRA clean, low mileage Z06 and believe I will be pulling the trigger possibly as soon as Monday. Just want to sleep on it and make sure it is what I REALLY want. Though I have to say, those cars are freaking beasts!

No worries PQ, I have been on the fence for several months now. The ZL1 will no doubt be a bad ass car. But the article, fake as it was, did help me solidify my desire for a Z06. The Camaro may end up being a match in a straight liine for the Z (possibly even slightly faster), and the MR and PTM are great features. But there was something about driving the Z tonight that really resonated with me. And I can have all that power and Nav as well!

Honestly there are quite a few reasons the ZL1 isn't for me. And why I'm hoping for a Z28. But I kind of figured you know the variables. and to be honest didn't think the article was legit. but even if those numbers are close. . .that shouldn't have put you over the edge.

The driving the Z06 should be the biggest reason you buy that car. only reason I'd buy the Z06 is if GM said for 100% fact there will be no Z28. beyond that I'll either save for the Z28 or buy another bike. . .buell is making one awesome bike. . .so hard to choose.

You, Sir, are a HEATHEN !

I was all like, "My GRANDMOTHER could do better than a 4.3 in that car & she's been dead for ten years!"

You have a talent for writing, I'll give you that.

Now, let me get back to work on this gallows I'm building.

The 4060 number was very convincing though, and it was funny after my heart rate went back to normal.

If with the extra coolers & beefy suspension parts they kept it under 4060, we're gonna OWN every stock American made car except the high priced ultra'vettes. Probably will anyway.

I trust that for every pound we are getting the maximum performance possible at this price point, whatever that is.

Autoweek is quoting the same number. A print media pub like that typically wouldn't use an internet website's made up number. So maybe they all saw the same number on the presentation like someone said. I guess we will know soon enough...

http://www.autoweek.com/article/2011...late=mobileart

When do you think GM will release perf numbers/laptimes/curb weights?

By the numbers, my car is right at 6.06 with a full tank of gas and me in the car. So I don't really put a lot of stock in the power to weight ratio.

I imagine it's got to be sometime before November....that's when prices come out and ordering opens.

Here's what Jalopnik did:

Chevy said the car would have a better power-to-weight ratio than a Porche 911 Carerra GTS which is 7.67 (408hp and 3131 lbs). They did not mention the weight, nor the actual P/W ratio.

So Jalopnik, in their infinite wisdom, guessed at a nice even number nearest the CTS-Vs weight; 4200lbs, and divided that by the now known 580hp to get 7.24.....and put it in parenthesis within Al Oppenheiser's quote.

For all we know, with the information we know, the car could weigh anywhere from 4443 lbs to 3800 lbs and still make Al's quote accurate. Jalopnik guessed...but didn't make it explicit.

Usually it does..... I would say the GT500 and CTS-V are about even it depends what you get. The GT500 with SVTPP package will beat a CTS-V around a road course. In stock form it is hard for the GT500 to get grip on the Dragstrip resulting in a slower ET than a CTS-V (especially against an auto one). However, the GT500 gets a faster trap speed. To me its a trade off so in my opinion they are about equal until you put stickier tires on the GT500... then you can put stickier tires on the V resulting in a mod war. Speed is a matter of money how $fast$ do you want to go?

I think if the Zl1 comes in a 3900-4000lb range it will be a serious contender. Anything 4150 and over weight reduction mods will be needed. The new dodge charger is '4400 lbs' so even with the more powerful engine it still et and traps the same as the first srt8 gen.
