I want to get big, what do I do? What do I need to eat? I want to increase my bench like those big guys in the gym.

Size and lifting strength don't go hand in hand.

There are guys 30-40 lbs lighter than me at the gym who can bench just as much as I can. Don't underestimate the power of lean muscle.

Look at Robert Griffin III for example. Granted, he is a freak of nature, he is rather lean and not bulky. Guy can lift and bench a whole hell of a lot.

If you truly want to get big, lift heavy weight for low reps. Do it a lot. 5 sets of 5 reps for certain lifts is a good rule of thumb to build strength. In terms of eating? Eat anything and everything. Obviously lots of protein is helpful for muscle strength and growth, but continuously eating more calories on daily basis will contribute to a gain in mass.

However, I highly urge you to reconsider. It is much easier to put on mass then it is to lose. I am one of the 'bigger' guys you see at the gym. Yes, I lift a lot and am strong. However, I work EXTREMELY hard and eat EXTREMELY diligently to keep my mass down as I work to reduce it to be quicker and faster and more agile. I watch every calorie I put in, I run about 25 miles per week, I do high-rep, low-weight exercises for time. Anything I can to get leaner while maintaining strength. It is MUCH easier to get stronger while being lean than the other way around.

Got it, low reps, high-quality calories. This sounds like something I can do. I will be huge in no time at all!

What is your max on bench? I need a goal to shoot for.

If you want to get huge, eat a bunch of junk. If you want muscle mass, its all about proper diet and the way you lift. You will gain fat while you bulk so its a never ending cycle of bulking and cutting till you get where you want to be. Its not going to happen over night.

How old are you?
Do have a current diet and workout plan? If so, What kind of lifts and weights are you working with?

This is so true. I know some small ass guys that lift insane amounts of weight for their size. The same goes for big guys, just because your big doesnt mean your all that strong. You can lift for size and remain at a relatively light lifting weight.

well, I do want to get "bigger" and stronger. I wasn't lying about that.

here is a video of me doing high reps from a few years ago.

Heavy weights for strength and lighter weight higher reps for hypertrophy. I am currently on a 4 day split, Mon., Tue., strength, Thur., Friday hypertrophy. Seems to work out well.

We all want to get bigger and stronger, I'm still at it and am doing pretty good for an old guy LOL.

I knew you would bust me.

I'm still stuck at 465 lbs on my bench as a max. But I would like to get with the big boys in the 500 lb club. I'll do some training with WheelmanSS and see if I can get over that hump.

Thats my goal. I was so close at 495 lbs. Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades though. Its gonna be a while before I get back up there and attempt it again.
