Who Has Been To Bowling Green?
Have always wanted to visit the Corvette Museum, as well as, the Performance Assembly Plant. I understand there are currently no tours for the assembly plant and no timeframe as to when they will resume. My question is...
Is it worth taking a week (plus) to visit the Museum or should I hold off until such a time that they open up tours of the plant again? I plan on driving to enjoy some of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, as well as, a night or two in Nashville, but if the plant tours are really highly recommended -- would just wait until they open again. All input greatly appreciated. |

Plant tour is awesome
Holley (local) and Brian Tooley Racing (BTR -- about an hour away) have tours also! May have to call them to find out when they do them. I've gone every year for CFest and then outside of that time also. If you want to have fun, you can take 'touring' laps in your Z/28 @ NCM! Will be lead/follow -- I think 3 or 4 laps is ~$99 You can contact NCM -- sometimes they run specials... -Don

If you want to tour some neat car shopa, go to Charlotte. I only went to NASCAR shops but there are numerous NHRA and other automobile based outfits there. I do not follow or consider myself a NASCAR fan in the slightest. Much appreciation for the technology and operations/craftsmanship behind it though.
We did the Tail of Dragon and surrounding driving roads in TN as part of the trip too. Info from our trip in the Z/28: -2148 mi., 18.8 mpg, 46 avg mph, $340 fuel (got 20.5 mpg on the highway from PA to TN) -Car performed flawlessly -PS4S tires were great, even in the rain... every day but 2 of them -90 degrees most days and I had the rain shield in throughout the trip... no issues. Temps remained within range. -Ran the Dragon in 3rd gear for the most part. Just used the torque to pull it around -The other driving roads were even more fun, IMO, than the Dragon. Faster sweepers or long straights... easy 70-100 mph + sections everywhere. -Xpel PPF and the CarPro sealant made taking car of the car easy on the trip. Without PPF on the frontend and the front of the qtrs, I'm sure this thing would be chewed up tremendously. -Blacksburg, VA for a night to visit Mountain Lake Lodge where Dirty Dancing was filmed -Pigeon Forge, TN for 3 nights to visit Smokey Mountains and Tail of the Dragon and other various 'driving roads' (~600 mi traveled here) -Charlotte, NC for a night to visit NASCAR shops (Penske, JR, Gibbs, Hendrick, RCR) and Detroit Speed Inc... out of hand experience to see these operations -Charlottesville, VA for a night on a farm as a pit stop on the way home Some pics of my travels there, this past Sept are highlighted here: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showt...=527371&page=4 More detailed pics of trip here: https://www.instagram.com/__jon__athan__/

Was supposed to be this year (2019) but I heard it’s indefinite right now. Shame. Glad I did it before they stopped
Still plenty to enjoy. Some car show/track deals seems to be happening often... -Don

I guess I'll have to start putting some effort into really planning this thing. Sounds silly, but did you find car washes along the way or just clean the Z up at rental houses? |

I would assume it has to do with the issues surrounding the C8, right?

1st night and last night was the only time we had place without a garage (hotel and little farmhouse). The rest we had vrbo or airbnb rentals with garages. Keeps car safe and clean. Washed each day in TN, then only wiped down in Charlotte. Houses with garages was cheaper than hotels. Tremendous value

Will do. I did a real quick search last evening and realized it would be nice to chat with someone who has some experience with those sites.

So much ground to cover, it's easy to waste time with commuting where you need to get to, especially in TN

We were in Park City for a 6 day Sniper Course and headed to Bowling Green to check out the Museum. We were in and out in about 2 hours. Personally I wasn't that impressed but in all fairness they were pouring the Concrete on the new floor where the sink hole was...so I am not sure what we missed.
The Vette's in the parking lot were more interesting than the Museum. Saw lots of old and new iron (fiberglass) there. Would have loved to tour the plant.
