Thank you Ron and Tunamanz,

In my case, the dealer I bought the car from is half way across the country. I should have caught much sooner that the factory separator was indeed installed during the PDI. Since I didn't see the separator kit in the trunk initially, I mistakenly thought I needed the separator kit. The dealer selling the car did send me one of those at their cost.
