Good trade Vin and glad we could help each other out. The 17” drag set up fits perfectly. Just clear the Brembo’s by a 1/4” front and back. No rub issues at all. Just had to cut the skates off the front brake pads. Now to get some tires and lugs for them and hit the drag strip again.

Drag racing a 1LE? I tried mine a few times at the track. Was very difficult to launch it. My best was a 12.99 at 109. 100% bone stock.

You gotta bring the rpms up on launch to 3500-4500 at least. I plan to get a 12.2 or better next time out on stock motor. Last time I was pulling 12.5’s. After review of my videos I was shifting to early through the gears and not running them out fully. I fixed it by adding shift light set at 6000rpm. Once I get back out a few times see improvement I’ll probably do cam and heads etc.

Other than being manual I find the 1LE to do great on just about any type of track.

You should go with us and see what that 427 monster does. It’s always a great time.

I drag raced on and off for 25 years. I doubt I'll ever have my '15 Z to the drag strip. Not really in its element. I have a '94 Z28 for that, which is currently being modded a bit for some 9's. Last time I was at Empire I sat around for 7 hours to make 3 passes. No thanks. The sitting around and waiting gets real old.

You should bring your 1LE out to the local autocrosses. There's a few guys with them and they always do very well. 1 is bone stock and he runs Novice Stock, usually top 3. The other is slightly modded with a great driver and he usually wins his class in Street Touring.

Dang you must have gone on a really busy day to only get 3 passes in 7 hours. We could have gotten 10-12 passes in last time out if we hot lapped. We were being conservative on the runs to let the cars cool

It really does depend at Empire, but I've never been to a Test and Tune where I failed to make at least 5 passes. I think I made 9 hits when Jay and I went down this fall, and that was pushing it on giving the clutch enough of a break between hits.

jolester - Jay is right, even on a stock tire you need a fair amount of rpm and clutch slip to get these heavy cars to leave well. On street tire with stock gears (overall 1st and 2nd are essentially equal in a SS to a 1LE, stock for stock) I was launching at around 4000rpm - did my best of a 12.79@112.74mph - that was with a cold air, headers, and dyno tune. When I went to 4.10's on street tires I cut that to a 12.59@113.4mph, leaving at around 3000rpm (to keep those tires hooked on such a steep 1st gear with the 4.10s).

Now that I'm on a drag radial I need to leave with 5000+rpm to get the car leaving right. It went a 12.07@116.76 when Jay and I went this fall, but I was having problems. I had a speed based rev limit at 5000rpm that was preventing me with leaving with too little RPM to cut better than a 1.81 60' - it would dead hook and bog from 5000rpm. I've got that resolved now and will be hunting 11's this spring with a better 60'. I want to go to a 25.7" tire too (currently 29") and pick up some more final drive ratio to back half a little better. If I can get to an 11.7x @ 12x+ I think that would be pretty good for a cam only, 4,100lbs stick shift car.
