Let's talk ramps - Camaro ramps

Ok, I need a set of ramps to change oil maybe back on them for exhaust work. Minor stuff. I do not want a floor lift just ramps. The tires are wide on my new Camaro 305 in the rear.

What do you recommend?

I build a set from 2x6 boards. DIY and you can make it just right for your car and I feel safer than relying on plastic ramps.

Do you have a splitter on your car? I remember mine being able to go up the generic autoparts store ramps I have before I added the splitter and lowering springs.

What does a 2x6 cost these days LOL! And the tires are 12" wide

But good idea

LOL, for some this is a very polarizing topic.

i have 305's on back, and i use race ramps. they are expensive, frankly stupid expensive, but it was worth it to me for a few reasons. I use them for the same purposes you note - light work like oil changes (engine and rear diff), etc. Depends on what make you comfortable, and what you're willing to spend. Of your possible choices, race ramps are probably in the upper cost range of the possible solutions.
Good luck on your choice!

Edit: i should note that i like redundancy, and urge the same to all... i also poke my jack stands under the jack pads, and throw a tire under the carriage. Paranoid? Maybe so, but not interested in being that one guy, when it's easy to have backup 'system'. 32.2 ft/s^2 happens really fast.

HOWEVER the height they give you is fairly slim off the ground, not enough room for a creeper for sure, but just enough for me to slap a pan under and shimmy my way to the plug. Note I’m also 24 and have no problem dragging myself on concrete todo so, but I know that is probably not what most people want to do. Think as mentioned before, might be worth it to make your own out if 2x6’s, but hell with how much lumber is right now, I would almost look into the quick jacks lol

I use these to change the oil in my car.

And to add to this the people that had them fail on them probably left them outside for who knows how long getting cold then hot through the months of the year. So yeah if you don't take care of them then that can happen. I have had Sears metal jacks stands break just like the Harbor Freight ones did and recalled. Just giving the OP another option. Take care of your tools and equipment. Have a great day.

The 2-piece race ramps are probably the nicest solution, albeit expensive. They will also be the lightest and easiest to store.

I have some wooden approach ramps I use in combo with old-school steel ramps. Unfortunately the splitter sticks out so far on this Camaro that it would hit the steel. Others here have built nice long wooden ramps, which I suspect weigh a ton.

What I end up doing to get under the car is chocking the rear wheels and jacking one side of the car at a time and putting some stacks of wooden blocks under the front wheels. It's enough clearance for most work, particularly if I slide on big pieces of cardboard and skip the creeper. I live at the corner of Cheapskate Lane and Stupidity Blvd., if anyone wants to see the setup.

Raceramps! I love these things. They are SUPER light! A little pricey, but worth it IMO.

These give 8.5" of clearance according to what I read.
But please see the reviews on Amazon before buying. Too many reports of these cracking or collapsing for my liking.

I'm happy with the $40 Rhino Ramps from Walmart. I use them on the Camaro, Yukon, and zero turn mower. They work fine on 275s but I'm not sure on a 1LE/Zl1 305 rear tire. That might be a little wide for them.

I'm lowered on BMR springs and have a front splitter. No issues with approach angle.

I was previously also using some homemade 2x12 wood ramps, the issue there is that they would frequently slide when pulling up onto them; and most importantly they were CRAZY heavy. The Rhino Ramps fit perfectly on a shelf above my garage entry door.
