Tighten Gas Gap Message

Recently installed S/C and LTH and now in the last 500 miles I've gotten the 'Tight Gas Cap' warning twice.

where do I start trouble shooting this?

I would start at the gas cap.

Not being a smart ass...well, not entirely anyway. But they do sometimes go bad, for lack of better words. I assume you have checked/tightened the cap? Have you tried swapping it out? Otherwise, the Evap system would be another place to start your quest.

Good luck man. This one can be quite a bitch to troubleshoot. Evap issues and leaks can trigger a false positive without triggering an actual Evap error.

x2, I would check the gas cap to make sure the gasket still looks good and not cracking.

But with the install of the supercharger, did you mess with any of the evap system parts?

The tank purge valve is in front of the passenger cyl head. Did the hoses and electrical connector get plugged back into that? With that message, sounds like either a tank purge hose did not get plugged back in, is leaking, not seated, or gas cap itself leaking. I'd take that purge hose off the purge valve and reinstall making sure it makes a positive click as it seats.

After you find the leak, it takes two drive cycles (cold start to operating temp) without the leak to clear the message. So after you fix something, give it a few days to see if the message goes out.

Could be coincidental to the install. As other's have said I'd probably start by replacing the cap even if it looks good. Could save you a lot of time and frustration trying to track a problem related to the install that may not exist if it fixes the problem. If not, you have only spent a few dollars, have a new cap and eliminated one of the possible issues. Good Luck.

could be a coincidence but I doubt it. Car only has 14K miles and had never done it. Now both times under the same driving conditions. I'll turn the car off, check the cap, fire it back up and the message is gone. But for peace of mind a new cap will be obtained.

Who did the work and who tuned it? That's where I'd start.

Ditto. I'd make extra-sure everything that was done is mechanically and electronically correct.

Op.....I just had this exact message pop up on my 2017 Titan. I never even knew that message existed at all. Anyway I checked the cap and it was tight both times it happened. All I did was loosen the cap off....left it for a bit a re tightened it. Its been 6 days and the message hasnt returned.

This message has plagued my GMC Sierra for years. I've replaced the gas cap, vent valve solenoid, and the purge valve. The best way to track down a leak is to smoke the evap system and see where the smoke comes out (it's just heated veg oil). But as someone has already suggested I'd bring it back to the last place that did work/ mods on your car and let them know the problem.

Amen on the evap issues being a royal pain. I have a 2001 Yukon that has thrown the evap code about 14 years of its life. Every two years at smog time I get to throw more money at buying parts and turning off the CEL. Only to have it reappear weeks later. It’s a scam! Good luck, OP. Hope it never comes up on my Camaro.

Just wondering if anybody knows where i can get a new gas LOCK for my 2011 r/s? The gas door is fine, the key broke off inside the [1800 km. from home] lock. Only have spare now and have tried amazon ,e-bay etc. Thanks for the help. BRIAN

After the installs is the evap still hooked up? Look under the hood on the passenger side where the fuel line is from the tank. Behind the ABS module. See if evap line is open. If it is go get the little rubber caps from auto parts store and put over the end.
