Custome Tune and 02s. Help needed
I had my car custom tuned with HP tuners.
The CEL keeps coming on for p0048 and p0060. They are listed as permanent but I thought hp tuners could shut them off. I then read on the hp forums that on permanent codes only the dealer scan tool will get rid of permanent codes. Some agreed some disagreed with that notion. My issue is, could the light impact the tune in my car or is it a minor nuance? Tuner said my tune is locked into the high octane scale and no changes can occur as technically the 02s are off. Anyone have experience with this? Car has LTs. No cats. Vaaram. No mufflers. |

Permanent codes can take a few cycles to disappear.
In HP Tuners, the SES box should be unchecked and the the drop down set to NO ERROR REPORTED. this will completely kill the code, but a permanent code may linger. Pulling the battery will not remove a permanent code. After many heat cycles and restarts, if the code is still present, you tuner can do a flash called WRITE ENTIRE. Be sure to save the AS FOUND copy of your tune before modifying it. GOOD LUCK

Tuner said my tune is locked into the high octane scale and no changes can occur as technically the 02s are off. A CEL won't affect your tune. If it was going to do anything like that, it would put you in limp mode. Never heard of being locked in the high octane scale unless someone copied and pasted the high octane table to your low octane table, which in my opinion is a terrible idea. The low octane table is a safe guard GM implemented to allow the engine to avoid damage in case of knock whether from low octane gas, too high a charge temperature versus load or lean conditions. I had many permanent codes after headers, no cats and a return fuel system was installed. My FPCM was no longer in communications with my ECM so emmissions codes were popping off all over. Do what I said in the previous post and see what happens. Dont forget to save the existing tune before changing it. Mark-

Thank you. I will mention that.
Yeah he does over write the low octane table with the same high octane table. I had a dynosteve tune in my last Camaro with the same mods and didn't have any issues. I went with hp tuners this time as a Whipple is on the order docket this winter. |
