I know where you're coming from, changing to a high gear right before another gear change kills time. Long stretches on my Impreza I had to change to 3rd since the engine runs out of breath at the end of 2nd about 7500 RPMS. Shaves seconds. I experimented with tire sizes to get that perfect rev range on certain tracks. Stock classes wont allow this, the ST classes did, but the competition is more fierce.
