Rudy, I was wondering if the Blizzak's still have more "squirm" than the Pirelli or Michelin offerings? My info my be old as I had them a few years ago on a 99 Volvo S70 Turbo and hated them on that car. Rack was great and swapped them out for Michelin Latitudes (I think) and those rode on the highway (lane changes specifically) much better.

Black ice is a damp area that looks "moist", but is frozen. Regular ice is just a sheet and easy to detect. "Black ice" is detactable given temperatures, frost, and those damp-looking areas on the road, but it's still a guess. I highly doubt studded tires are all that on "black ice", as it's so think that the studs aren't really going to "dig in". Regular ice...sure. I've had some crazy experiences with ice in the midwest (freezing rain), but luckily I don't live there anymore. More "black ice" out here in the West though.

Rudy, i drive between pittsburgh and cleveland 5 days a week for work, and i must go no matter the weather. This will be my first year doing it in a camaro. Obviously I get alot of everything in the winter...snow, slush, packed snow, lake effect snow, ice...but 90% of that trek is on the highway so winter traction and handling at highway speeds is whats important. I worry about ice and having tires that will get me there no matter what, with durability a secondary concern since I put so many miles on(8k) per month. I will be minus sizing. What do you think of the altimax arctic studded(235/65/17) at highway speeds versus the usual winter studless .Unfortunately you guys havent tested the altimax versus the best studless like blizzak or scorpion etc. Or should I be looking at the performance winter tires since my inclement weather driving will occur typically on the highway? Thanks!

^ I would recommend getting the Blizzak DMV1 in 225/65R17. The Studded tires make a lot of clicking on dry pavement. For a long drive that might get old. Otherwise the studded General would be competitive with the Blizzak in snow and ice performance. We haven't tested the General studded but did test the Firestone Winterforce studded and I still preferred the Blizzak.

Just got a new set of Blizzaks DM-V1 275/40R20 XLs and LM-60 245/45-20. Has anyone had any experience with these tires?

It appears as if you are planning to run the two different tires on a Camaro. Mixing those two tires is NOT recommended. Different Speed ratings, tread designs and tread compounds.

Do you meant different CHEVY part numbers or Tire Rack? Perhaps they still work but he part #'s changed from 2010 to 2012?
Thank you. |

The same sensors for 10,11,12. I have double checked this. Also I have sent many sensors out for a 12 car with no issues reported.

We bought some LS take offs to put on my dad's 45th Anniversary Camaro. The TPMS on the 2009 tires work fine on the 2012.

Rudy, Do you still recommend the Scorpions over the LM60s (245/45 R20 on all four wheels -- stock SS wheels)?
