1400 DSS Axles == Diff Leak

Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. I'm posting to see if anyone has experienced the Drive Shaft Shop axles not sealing properly in the differential housing.

The other day, smelling burning diff oil and seeing it all over the rear of my car I decided to put it on the lift and take a look. It seems that one of the axles was not inserted far enough into the diff case for the axle seal flange to seat against the seal itself. We tried several times to reinsert the axle but could never get it inserted far enough to seal. We ended up reinstalling the stock axles, which are sealing up just fine.

Any tips would be a big help!

Idk what to say other than mine are fine. I put a lot of grease on them and when I was putting them in, I pushed them in about an inch, then quickly shoved them in. Pulled lightly on then to make sure they snapped into place. All is fine here. Sorry to hear about your problem. Without being there to look at them, I'm no help.

Probobly when U pulled the stock axle out u might have nocked the little spring off of the axle seal causing it not to seal tightly around the axle

Its possible you may not have gotten it all the way in to to start, We used to be a large rebuilder of CV axles at one time doing over 8000 a month. in the past when we have seen this problem (but never on a Camaro) the axle was not installed all the way to start and was driven on the small area of the spline past the snap ring (the little 1/8" of spline) this then would twist a little or tear and make it so the rest of the spline would not go in because they were out of alignment with each other. you could give us a call, we would help out......

I am having the same problem,, I have had the same axles for about 6 months, then all of a sudden the passenger side seal is leaking,, Called the local dealership here in Houston and NOBODY (dealers that is) in Houston has any,, even after calls to GM, they have none in stock and will not committ to when they may have some. So,,, an alert is being sent out to all dealers in the US to find one,, are any aftermarket seals available?

Yep, those axle stub shaft seals are real easy to dork up.

Not on the DSS axles, but I have had this happen on the stock axle. I just had my leaking axle seals replaced under warranty last week. I noticed a couple months ago the oil that was on the back of my exhaust cut-outs which I have mounted just forward of the mufflers. I also know of several other new Camaros that have had the same issue. My mechanic who does the major work on my car has worked on 4 or 5 new Camaros and said he noticed it on all of them. I know to some degree, they can "bleed" which is normal, but not a leak. Everyone should check and make sure they do not have this problem, and get it repaired under warranty if you do if it's stock of course.

I had no issues with my DSS axels, however I bought the special Kent-Moore tool off Ebay to install mine just to be sure. Had no troubles to get a set of axel seals for the current diff build, dealer had them in less than a week.

Over filling the diff is the most common reason the axle seals will leak.

X 2. I have seen this many times before. The DSS product is top quality and I do not think it is the source of your problem. I would look really close at the seal.

Both sides have leaked ever since I installed my DSS axles. I've put them in three times now trying to stop the leaking. How do you replace the axle seals?
