ADM Performance finishes LS9 Cammed 427
As many of you know I recently sold my 2010 Camaro Shop car. With the sale of it we had to meet a couple requirements to meet Overseas emmissions standards. We opted for the OEM GM LS9 CAMSHAFT.
Saturday- (January 9th 2010) I put the car on the rollers at 9:00 am to get a baseline prior to making this monster a much cleaner burning machine. The original and final SAE Dyno numbers we nothing but stellar,Only problem was it would not pass emissions :( After making a couple pulls in our climate controlled shop(72-76 degrees year round) I removed the car from the dyno at 9:35 am.I put the car on the rack and proceeded to remove all the coolant,a/c refrigerant and engine oil.I then started to remove the front end of the car(Front bumper cover, wheels and tires fender liners).Once apart and all liquids were drained I continued to remove all the essientials to do a cam swap. After 1 hr I had the front of the engine off, valvetrain removed from the heads and all the spark plugs removed,I proceeded to remove the cam and prep the new cam for install. The job is pretty simple when you have all the proper tools and machinery,It is nice to have a shop that is comfortable to work in,makes for a better job. Once the cam was prepared to be installed I then went into the re assembly process, this requires a few special tools to insure proper alignment of key components.Once the front end was all buttoned up on the engine I then proceeded to re install the Vlavetrain ,sparkplugs, radiator ,fan and condenser assembly.I got the front of the car back together as well as the fender liners back in and wheels back on. After the car was back on the ground I Install the ADM Performance Intake tube and Maf back in place.I filled the engine with coolant ,Put the required 8 quarts of oil in as well as a new Pf-48 filter. I flashed the ECM back to Stock with GM's latest operating system, this allows the car to be up to date with all current calibration changes.I started the car and let it warm up with the stock calibration,it purred like the day it was born...Only it was a 4.125x4.100 LPE LS7 With LS3 Cylinder heads and Intake manifold. After letting the car warm up outside I went for a spin around the block to verify everything was in check.I came back to the same rollers I had just dynoed on 3 hours before. I made the first pull on the dyno with the stock calibration,Just wanted to verify this small cam would not need much tuning. After seeing that it could use a slight change to the air fuel and a couple changes to the Timing table we were able to see that a tune was not required for this package to work within what GM had specified for a Factory LS3. Here is what you get when you take a 644/654 242int 254exh on 114lsa cam out and install a LS9 CAM 562/558 211 int 230exh on 120lsa in a LPE 427- AFTER CAM SWAP BEFORE CAM SWAP Dynojet Research Inc. The car now has 100% stock manners, but still rips the pavement up. Andy Last edited by ADM PERFORMANCE; 01-09-2010 at 08:58 PM. |

I bet that is the smoothest, most well mannered 490RWHP Camaro out there. Very cool to see!
What exactly made you sell the shop car anyway? Wish I was the lucky SOB to buy it. Thought I think I would have left the original cam in there since I wouldn't have to worry about emissions Nice job! |

Where is the idle speed set to now and before and any idea where the vaccuum was before and after?
It occurs to me that for those worried about losing their warranty could use this cam without a need for ECM tune on their factory LS-3 motor. Plus maybe add intake and headers (shorty or long tube) and exhaust. Not sure if all of that would take the tune LEAN or not. Just a thought. Great post.

Previous Idle with the big cam was - 950 rpm,Current idle is 550 rpm. The car idled at 75-78 kpa at 950 rpm with the big cam,The LS9 Cam idles at 30 kpa . The cam is good for 20 rwhp on a stock LS3 with no tuning. Hope this helps Andy |
