False Alarm .. Trunk Open

I was sitting in my 2LT Camaro yesterday waiting for my wife, and the “Trunk Open “alarm flashes in the DIC panel. I checked the trunk but it was closed. I cleared the alarm with the button on the turn signal lever. A little while later the false alarm on the trunk came on again and this time I opened the trunk and closed it and the alarm went off. We drove over to the Mall which has a Baskin Robbins and while we were walking back to the car I heard a car alarm going off. I couldn’t see my car from where we were at. The alarm stopped and when I saw my car I tried to remote start it but it wouldn’t start. I unlocked the car and it honked and flashed the lights, and when I started it up the ”Theft attempt” alarm flashed on the DIC and then the “Trunk Open” alarm showed up. I checked the trunk and it was closed. So I opened it and closed it again. Anyone else getting false alarms?

When you pop your trunk, look at the trunk lid and you'll see two black bolts with a black piece sticking out of both of them. You can push the black pieces back inside the bolts (this is all plastic by the way). Now sometimes those will loosen up and may be what's happening. if that pin doesn't push in far enough when the trunk is closed to make contact with the sensor, the DIC will say trunk open. That may be what's happening. I haven't had the problem you have had, but I did find them loose before. If you can't finger tighten them then one of them may have backed all the way out.

Oh, the pieces I'm talking about are left and right of the latch assembly on the trunk lid.

Your welcome. If it persists I would take it in though.

Body Control Module or main computer is my guess. They have a tendancy to screw things up if they happen to be bad. It will make the car do some really crazy stuff. I have a buddy that has an newer Saturn Vue and the door locks would cycle and the dash lights would come on and the gauges were going hay-wire while driving down the road. It turned out to be the BCM and they also replace the ECM too eventually.

I've had a couple of "Trunk Open" false alarms.

So far this is the only thing I noticed. I did have a Service StabiliTrak message displayed at startup for a few seconds once and the theft attempt a couple of times without the Trunk Open alarm. Scheduled a appoint with the Dealer next week to have it checked out.

The false trunk open alert has happened to me a handful of times since owning the car, and it's usually been right after closing it. I just open it back up and close it again and it goes away. It never set the alarm off or anything though.

I've had this happen one time and was taken by surprise. Got out and checked the trunk, it was closed. Opened it and closed it again, message went away and haven't seen it again since!

I have had this happen a couple times as well. For me it was on cold days. I haven't noticed it during the summer months. So I am curious if it will happen again when ..if ( I live in Teas) it gets colder

I went out to my garage and my trunk was open. And my keys were hanging up on my key rack. I don't know why that happened. And then it has happened again. Still researching this. I might have to take it in to the dealer.

I've had it say Trunk open incorrectly quite a few times too.

I just open it, close it, and then do the same a few weeks later when the issue reappears.

I've actually had a "hood open" false alarm fiasco.
