if you have properly prepared the surface by using some sort of scratch pad, and cleaning solvent, im not sure why you cant get it to stick.

dish soap
Wash it with dawn dish soap and rinse thoroughly.Rough the painted surface that was factory painted with 1200 grit paper.
Get a fresh roll of blue painters tape 3M. Also a roll of scotch 1/8 " fine line automotive body tape if doing letters. Minimize touching surfaces as you tape the surfaces to be painted. Just finished mine today, inferno Orange over silver panel, fine line taped the letters this am and shot summit white on letters.Looks good.Go for it .

I don't get how you can't get it to stick, maybe you bought the wrong tape?

Simple solution: get rid of the engine cover.
No one sees it unless you are showing it and it traps heat. |

scuff it a wee lil bit hit it with alcohol or some solvent to get the shitty shine spray they detailed the engine bay with when u bought the car and you should be ready to go ... i learned you need to make sure everything is nice n clean or the paint will wrinkle up bad... good luck and i switched from blue painters tape to regular white masking tape when i finally got to paintin
