As I’ve said in other threads, ford can’t build an auto to save their life. It’s a good thing they partnered with GM for thier new 10 speed.

We have a 2012 Flex and 2016 Explorer and BOTH roll backwards on a hill and slip like a son of a bitch. Garbage.

Funny how the 6R80 is one of the strongest stock transmissions ever fitted to a car. Haven't seen a stock 6L80 handle the power to run 9s. Ford and GM both partnered to build the 6spd auto and the Ford is a much stronger unit. Every car has their own pros and cons. I've puked plenty of transmissions from both sides, but none are as bad as Mopar. At least they got their $hit together with the new 8spd. The 6spd they had previously in the Ram trucks was junk. Let's not forget the weak sauce 4L60 to 70E either. That was a lame ass transmission too. Convenient to forget those atrocities?

Explain how we’ve had both since brand new and BOTH slip like crazy? I’ll put the Explorer in drive and if I don’t wait a few seconds before I give it gas it spins then bang I lurch forward. Same thing for taking my foot of the brake on a hill and they both roll backwards, not creep, but flat out roll. When going from reverse to drive, again they spin if you don’t wait. The Camaro doesn’t do it. The Impala I had before the Explorer didn’t do it. My daughters Malibu doesn’t do it, and neither does my Dad’s LaCrosse. I even drove one of the new AWD Taurus patrol cars at a homicide scene and it did the same roll back crap like the Explorer. I’m not saying I’m power shifting it when going from park or reverse, but if you don’t actually wait a few seconds it will physically bang hard and lurch. I find it hard to believe it’s only these 3 cars. The Taurus patrol cars have had transmission and drive shaft issues. The Impala we used before had brake and cooling issues, so nothing is perfect, but I NEVER had the Impala act like the Explorer does.

Then it sounds to me like you need a trip to the stealership to have them looked at. I'll agree that it is definitely abnormal transmission behavior you're describing. I mean, the 5R55S in my old 3v is not the strongest transmission in the world by far, I managed to shear the input shaft. Pulled the broken piece out of the transmission and converter, stuck a hardened 300M one inside and never looked back.

It’s already been back 3 times in the first 5k miles. I’m beginning to think my Explorer is a 5:00 on Friday build.

We like the Flex, except for the slipping, it’s a nice car. I like it waaaay better than the Explorer, it’s just heavier with less HP. It rides light years better.

Well you also gotta remember that the transmission is just one component of the car. If it were built in Mexico, and in a Friday, definitely could be the issue. If it were me, I'd insist in a brand new unit. Slippage is unacceptable, for any brand.

The flex is ours and probably out of warranty. The Explorer belongs to the city, but it’s my take home so I’m the only one who drives it. We have another Explorer that’s been back 5 times for trans problems and they keep sending it back. I have to take mine back for the carbon monoxide recall.

Well there has to be some sort of underlying problem then. Ford should be getting you squared away at any rate. Sorry to hear the troubles you're having dude. It sucks ass I know. Fwiw, I've seen a Chevy Express van with the old 4.3L puke a 4L80 of all things. Explain that one! Haha

Sounds like it needs the latest strategy program from the dealer. Glitchy drive by wire programming can also cause the car to hesitate then lurch forward. A good aftermarket tune solves that issue.

My dad has a 2013 AWD 365HP Taurus Police car. Low miles and never actually used by the Police. He has a livernois (SP) 3 bar tune and has gone 0-60mph in 4.8 seconds base on a iphone app that is he has. He did not beat my 13' 6M with Kooks LT, NPP, Tune blah blah blah. But for a 70 year old guy he gave it his best. (we went to mexico and did a 30 mph roll-on) and I refused to race from a dead stop

How much horsepower did the npp give you? For my understanding the Taurus SHO is still faster than a Mustang GT, always have been. They are faster than our SSs stock for stock. Anyways, cool story.

I don't think so. The SHO weighs 4 million pounds and is down any where from 35hp to an l99 all the way up to being down 70 to a GT. They would need the tune to close the gap on the SS or GT.

My neighbors have a 2016 SHO, he always brags about how bad a$$ it is. One trip in Mexico he found out his
" bad a$$ " wasn't so bad.
There is a mean SHO at our local track but they seem to be few and far between. I'm more worried about 5.0s than SHOs. 5.0s are like us, you never know if it's just exhaust and a tune, or if someone's got some money in it.
