Very easy. I bought a Kenwood Ddx9903s, which has an HDMI input. I simply connected a raspberry pi full of games (nes, snes, n64, etc) through the hdmi and also connected it to a USB port for power. Then you connect a controller (USB in my case) to the raspberry pi and that's it.

Nope. It's just running off a raspberry pi

Ok so this sound awesome - and is definitely something I might do in the near future since it sounds like a fun project. Here is my question OP - the Kenwood Ddx9903s is a 400$ head unit. For the sake of doing the project on a budget, any suggestions on what a person could use that wouldn't cost that much? Thanks!

There are other kenwood head units that are cheaper than the 9903s that have an HDMI input. I'll check once I get home.

Also remember, you'd need a radio kit such as the PAC, Metra, or scosche

Where are you downloading the roms? I might have to look into this, I have all the plugs necessary in my center console so this would be pretty easy
