I can't speak specifically to the ZL1 (until mdmoore23 gives me his...) but on my SS, when I tried stealth mode I was not too impressed -- doesn't seem like anything truly makes that initial bark all that much quieter. Oh well, neighbors will get used to it. I don't get any complaints, and one guy a few doors up actually mentioned that he really likes the noise it makes (but he thought I was doing it on purpose every morning...). I won't do the door-closed start because my children's rooms are directly above the garage and I would rather piss off the neighbors than my wife... |

Nothing will help the initial start, as the flaps are in full open position before starting... then the solenoid takes that brief time to set the tone as you have dialed it for.

I start mine with the door down etc. My neighbor likes to remind me about the time it scared her cat so much that it scratched her. lol (headers, no cats, Corsa Extreme). Explosion is a good comparison.
By the way, the "rev" is to heat up the O2 sensors. You CAN tune it out by retarding the timing but it means you have to be mindful of oil and tire temps to know when the car is warmed up, which you should do anyway. |

My fav is to hit the remote start when someone walks up on the rear.

That’s not true. Switch on the ignition by holding the button, then select stealth mode. The flaps will close while the engine is off.

Right but... I think the OP is looking for a jump in the car, hit the start button normal start each time w/o the one-off routine. But, that is an option.

Another tip, seems to work on my ZL1. If I start it and it's doing it's "cold start" cycle which I believe is just to increase temp as quickly as possible and warm up the o2 sensors, if you quickly start it and put it in drive, it goes right into regular idle. Put it back in neutral/park in the next minute though and it'll idle back up again. So get in start it in stealth mode (Either leave it in this mode when you shut it off or turn the ignition on and do it before starting), put it in drive, open garage, and leave.

For what it’s worth, I have an aftermarket exhaust controller that defaults to fully open (fuse pulled) at every startup. I keep it in stealth mode, but the flaps are always open unless I press the homelink remote — which basically puts the fuse back in remotely. Then it goes into stealth mode. When doing a cold start in my garage at home, I press the homelink button while the engine is cranking. The valves are fully closed by the time it fires. This keeps my neighbors happy, and also defaults to fully open at all other times. I liked having the fuse pulled, but my neighbors didn’t. And I got tired of going into the menus each time I shut it off or started it at home, so that’s my solution. I’ll add that I have headers, so my car is pretty loud. |
