Hi guys!
I'm a complete newbie when it comes to sound systems...well actually to many things for that matter but for the time being lets discuss sound!!

I have a STOCK audio set up. The only thing that I have done is that I have added a Kenwood double din stereo with an Alpine dash kit and that's about it.
My only issue has been with the old stereo and still is with the new stereo is that the rear speakers just kill the love for music when the bass kicks in. Now that I have a Kenwood stereo, the sound quality isn't the best but still is much crisper than what it was with the factory stereo. However when the bass in the music kicks in, the rear speakers make a nasty sound. Problem is I'm not a pro so I can't tell if its the speakers that are making the nasty sound because they can't handle the bass (not that there is SOOO much of it) or is it the plastic deck. The issue is that the bass pumping out of the speakers doesn't sound distorted, however it sounds like its rattling the life out of the plastic panels. I'm not sure what that sound is, so I can't pump the bass up, or for that matter I can't even pump the volume up much because I get that cheap plastic thumping/rattling sound.

I also want to get a a subwoofer. Point being, my budget is about $ 1200 for a complete upgrade. I want crisp and clear sound which I technically still have until the bass kicks in (As I mentioned, problem to me is still unidentified).
I don't want to lose the warning chimes which I have been told comes from the factory amp......SO!!!

WHAT ALL DO YOU GUYS RECKON I DO OR CHANGE SO AS TO:

- Get clear crisp sound
- Get nice clean bass (nothing too crazy loud and definitely not to rattle that rear deck where the speakers are)
- Not lose warning chimes
- Not gain too much weight or any weight so as to avoid effects on performance of vehicle.

$1200 should get you what you are looking for. A new amp will do wonders (at least it has for my system). I added a 12" sub to the trunk and I have no rattle like I had with the stock speakers. You should be able to get a box, sub, wiring kit, and a decent set of components for $1200 if you do everything your self. If you take it to a shop and have them install it will cost more but possibly get all that for $1200. It really just depends which amp/sub you choose to go with

You need to first ascertain the source of the rattle. It may just be your deck rattling (see video below). You can test it out (like the guy in the video) and if that is your problem, it can be remedied with a sheet of dynamat ($38 or so at BestBuy). I highly recommend replacing the stock Boston amp though. That amp is terribad. You can get decent sound from the Boston speakers with a quality aftermarket amp.

What about the factory warning chimes for when your door is left open or things like that? If I change my amp, will that not disappear?

This might sound crazy but I know there's threads on it. The center speaker in the middle of the dash ruins the "stereo" sound. I unplugged mine and I swear it makes a world of difference.

Not sure if that will fix your problem, but I found I can turn my system up way louder and not have any of the distorted/rattling sound. Before I had to put most of the sound towards the back. Center speaker gone = better overall sound.

Honestly.. I was in a band and I used to do live sound / recording studio work.. so i'm VERY PICKY.

I got the BA system in hopes I wouldn't have to modify it.. I was wrong. The bass was lacking but the highs were crystal clear..so my solution was this.

it's not TOO much or too little. It's just enough. It was the little tweak that was needed to solve the issue.

my settings are

Treble - +4
Mid - +4
Bass -4 or -2 depending on input type.

They are Kenwood E-series 10" in a truck box powered by a kenwood 600x2 amplifier that is mounted to the back of the box.

And it sounds perfect all the way upto 36. And I also left the center speaker with no issues.

The factory head unit generates the chimes, not the amp. You will only lose the door open and head light warning chimes if you wire your sub remote to the cigarette lighter.

I'm guessing here, but think the chimes are actually genrated by the BCM and sent to the sound system. If you replaced the head and still have the chimes, that would be my guess. Others whom have also changed their head unit can, pardon the pun, "chime" in here.

BTW, how do you like the Kenwood. I'm not sure I want to wait for Alpine to release the INE Z928HD, whenever that may be.

Your chimes are in the alpine dash kit now.
