I'd say to keep the center console the same....shifter and all. Maybe add a little rubber sticking out of the shifter in some sort of cool pattern so on those hot days, we won't have to grip a 200 degree, hand burning shifter. We can have the look of chrome but with safety.

For the dash, keep the dual cluster look, but add a better LCD display between the two. Also, make the speedo and RPM cluseters easier to read. See on the center of the dash where the translucent deal is w/ the display? Center of the dash? Get rid of the see through stuff and just toss in an LCD there too. Make it large enough to add all the good stuff in there. Get rid of the radio/AC controls completely and put in some good looking, functional stuff.

Also, put an AC vent right below the steering wheel. I know there's a few of you that would laugh at the idea, but my wife had it in one of her old cars....either the Nissan 240 or the Stang. She liked having that vent there for those hot days and I did too. It's not like it would be that hard to add.....just some thin plastic piping under the dash. Just think about it....hehe Would you agree?

But, back to those gauges....love the console, dash needs help.

i would prefer a HUD as well, and GM hasn't reserved them exclusively for the Corvette. The Grand Prix has had it for years. The Camaro could get it without much trouble.

But I have heard that these G-meters and timers that come from manufacturers are a little generous compared to what you can do yourself.

+1

I want totally traditional analog gauges with a digital display in the middle. I hate retro gauges that the numbers look 60's style like the concept. And the conical shape of the concept gauges is ghastly. This will be a huge positive for the Challenger over the Camaro if the Camaro comes out with something like the concept gauges.

Autometer has several styles of multi-function gauges that would do the same thing. I like that it would be more integrated if done by GM, but it's definately not a deal breaker. If it's an option, I might opt' out to keep cost down.

Egads, that pic above with the yellow interior hurts my eyes. The speedometer and tachometer need work. The gauges around the stick shift - eh, I'd prefer them not there but that's secondary.

I prefer the green one... that is a chop someone made for me (i forgot who... i'm sorry!!!) I love the gauges by the shift lever (please don't lose these GM!!!!!!!!), and i like the square tach/speedo something a little less showy would be nice, but i like the look of them with the blue on black... i want something different... not traditional... if i want to stick with traditional i'll keep my cavalier... or get a cobalt or something... i want a car that is cool inside and out...

Square guage surrounds are very unusual . . . because very few people would ever like that design. They were on the '69 Camaro and it was its worst feature by far. However, in the bullheaded quest to merely "copy" the '69 they carried over things that were no good. IMO, they would have done better to draw the best from 67-69, and using the speedometer and tach from the earlier model.

Um...I'm curious who you talk to that constitutes saying very few poeple like the main gauges. I think you'll find there are more who like it (for a different-looking, and fresh feature) than not.

Also, there was no "Bullheaded quest to merely "copy" the '69." Dodge takes that award for carbon copying a past car. The design chosen for the Camaro is the most modern of the three musclecars, and it was designed to be that way from the get-go. The wanted to create a new Camaro; but while doing so, there were cues taken from the '69 Camaro that were redesigned to be "updated" and "new". There's no copying to be found on the 5thgen.
