I actually think 5th gens in general have come up in value a little if you can believe it. 2 years ago I had a 2010 Aqua Blue SS with 13k miles and perfect condition but wanted a C7 Corvette. I desperately tried selling the car myself and couldn't get an offer above 18,500 for it. I traded it in and bought the vette. 2 Years later I decided I'm not a vette guy, so I sold my C7 and decided to get back into a 5th gen camaro. I looked for months for another low mile ABM (There's a want ad here I posted, along with my own nationwide search) and came up with nothing but a few modded cars that have asking prices of 25K or more. That's well over 5k more than what they were selling for 2 years ago, and now with twice the miles.

My theory for this is that at the time, the 6th gen Camaro was just coming out, and I think that's why 5th gen values were so low. After they were out for a year or so people realized they weren't worth twice the price of what they could get a nice 5th gen for, so people didn't trade their old Camaros for new ones, and many who were shopping for their first Camaro ended up buying a nice used 5th gen instead of a new 6th gen that was close to 50k. I think the 6th gen Camaro has actually kept the values of 5th gens UP rather than hurting their value.

I love my 5th Gen, but for the life of me, 2 years ago I couldn't find one for under 40k, let alone 20k.

Pigeon hole into one color makes deal shopping hard. That may have been true though but with 6th SS getting into high 20s I would say that time ended. I wouldnt touch a 5th SS for more than 22k right now and would have to be real clean. 1le mid 20s, zl1 around 30k. Any more than those it tips heavy to 6th gen performance for dollar or a c6.

Not many 5th gen ZL1's "around 30" unless they're high miles and beat.

Had my '13 ZL1 for almost 6 years now - I don't worry about resale because I'll never get rid of it! I still absolutely love this car... My oldest grandson, who's almost 12, is already giving me hints about wanting me to eventually "hand it down" to him. I tell him I plan to live to 90, and will be driving it until then!

Right. I got mine for a steal and a half. Certified, under 10,000 miles, and in the high $30,000 bracket.

I’ve yet to see a cheaper ‘15 CPO in the mileage range than what I got back in April.

Yep.. can't even find 2012 ZL1s for 30 grand, unless you find the odd high mile or reconstructed car.

They are out there, just need patience. I purchased mine only a few months ago, got it for a few hundred below their list price.

I bought mine a year ago for 42k had 600 miles on it but had never been titled. So I am first owner and still have 24 months of the 36 month warranty. But none of that really matters, I all ready sold one 3rd gen and REGRET that. I won't make the same mistake. I will gladly keep my big assed retro looking bad ass 5th gen ZL1..she's mine all mine.

I’m tossing around the idea of getting a 5th gen ZL1. I sold my 1LE last November for more than what everybody told me I’d get for it. Several thousand more actually. Every 14-15 ZL1 I’ve seen for sale is upper 30’s to mid 40’s if they are clean and low mileage. I can’t justify 40k for one but I might be able to convince the wife if I find one mid to low 30’s with the options I want.

Some things to think about, after discussing with buddy who owns tuning shop in town and my own 2 cents.

I feel like a lot of times cool cars can sometimes follow a reverse bell curve as far as value. Obviously a car that's old enough to be a classic is gonna sky rocket in value in most cases. But even my 94 Bronco I modded the hell out of with 6" lift, gears, step rails, and customized everything I sold recently for almost 10k with almost 200k miles on original engine. Paid 13.6k for it in 2000. So might turn around in the long term at some point.

Another thing to think about that I discussed with tuning buddy is that new cars are getting to be more and more locked down. Manufacturer's encrypting/locking the canbus for example could be a more common thing. Also the level of complication new ECMs are coming out with could also make it more difficult to tune. He said he was and will continue to see a reverse trend where people will want to get vehicles that you can still mod easily and not have to be forced into some dealer only performance package or something like that.

Another advantage of having an older model is the amount of resources and parts available. It's reassuring to me if I get some sort of problem, most likely will be able to find a person with the same out there in forums that has had the same thing and what they did to fix it. Brand brand new cars might not have that luxury and diagnosing a problem becomes more tedious. Same goes for parts, pretty easy to find parts for older gen vehicles in a lot of cases.

What I'm more worried about is that in the future more cars coming out that are like the new Tesla Roadster where electric becomes more prevalent. I could see that destroying resale value on gas guzzlers 20-30 years from now possibly if everyone's rolling around in fuel cell cars or something.

Personally, still love rolling mine so resale isn't that much of a concern. Still turns heads and can't pull into just about any crowded parking lot without getting into a conversation about "what do I got in that thing???".
