Dealer installed back-up camera
Had the local Caddy dealer install a back-up camera. Mounted the screen where the gauge cluster would have been. What a difference. Can finally see out the back, and can't miss the kids and bikes behind the car. Well worth the $200 bucks labor and unit combined.

Yes pictures..And you found some dealer to do all this for $200 including parts? Install camera, route all wires, and supply a screen of some sort not in a rear view mirror?

Will post pics tomorrow. Installed for $200...$150 labor, I got the unit myself. They scrapped the units brackets, and hard wired the monitor so it looks like it was built in. I told them to use their own judgement in mounting it, and they did a great job. Wireless system. Has a sender in the back that the monitor picks up when the back up lights are on. 4.3 inch color screen. Was going to trade the car off till I got this. Too many kids around, and this makes it impossible to miss them.

Interesting idea ~ i didn't realize that there might be a wireless approach to this. Do you mind sharing the unit information.

ebay...it is a Peak kit. They have several, but I got the 4.3 inch monitor. You can hook it up yourself if you can find the back up wires, ( I couldn't) and either plug the monitor into the accessory socket or hard wire it to the panel the way the dealer did.

The Peak unit sells for well north of $100 at O'Reilly, but ebay has the same thing for far less.

Why? Because the rear visibility out of the Camaro sucks. and with young kids playing around, hiding, it can save their life, and prevent hitting someone in the Wally World parking lot. Some people try to get hit for the settlement, especially here in AZ. I didn't think they were good until I bought a new CR-V a few weeks ago. Cameras are standard in all Hondas, except the Fit. After using it on the CR-V, found out how great they are. They don't make cars the way they used to, and it is a good thing. Technology works, and is useful. (Been driving longer than you, I will bet)

Mehh...I like the factory camera in the rearview mirror better. Plus, I have a 2SS so I have the console guages. The factory camera is definately more...about $400 for all the parts plus you have to install yourself or pay even more.
But hey....as long as you're good with it that's what matters.

I think it looks really good for those who don't have the gauges! Good find.
