6l80E limits and ZL1 Diff swap?
I have searched this forum up and down and everyone seems to have a different number - so, would like to get some opinion.
In the process of an LSA swap and should end up around 725 to the wheel. Car will be used mainly as drag/bracket car. 1. At what point are you guys destroying the trans? 2. What HP limit would a ZL1 diff swap be safe to? Ultimately would like to throw t400 in it and upgrade the rear end but would love to make it through the upcoming season before going that route. Wishful thinking? |

Mine went in the 550's some make it to 800's all depends. Mine wasn't abused and had dip stick, BM pan, added BM cooler prior to it crapping the bed. Rebuilt the hell out of it and not worried any more.
I'm just above 900 now with zl1 diff and its holding strong. The half shafts are bulkier than my dss ones rated for over 1000 so I'm not in the least bit worried about the diff/half shafts. There are some shops that can really beef up the 6l80e if you want to spend the money. Not sure how that compares to a t400 swap though its been awhile since I priced out both. Good luck though! |

Appreciate that - what was the cost to rebuild your 6l80? Would be going through Abruzzi transmission in Ohio for the th400. Just trying to get myself to point I can make it through the upcoming season and not be overly concerned. Sounds like the ZL1 Diff and half shafts is the way to go |

ZL1 3.73 and 3.23 handled 735rwhp with A LOT of runs down the strip, on a M6. I did wear down some half-shafts to where they were making popping noises (the CVs). They didn't break but were noisier. Really recommend the ZL1 diff and half-shafts. I wouldn't hesitate to say the ZL1 diff/axles are good up to 900rwhp from all the chatter here and there, and experience.
