Curious to hear what kind kill switch you used, how/where it was applied? Interested to hear about real effectiveness in the field. Was it some homebrew DIY thing you made up or a retail packaged kit?

I guess this doesn't cut it for everyone

I do live in a pretty chill area I suppose, but I do feel for anyone who has their baby taken from them.. Such a horrible thought

It's a bit hard for me to understand how the manual trans is such a great deterrent.

Sure, it's a "problem" but not a huge one I'd imagine... You can get up to a decent city speed even in 1st gear with the SS, and you can just let the clutch up slowly to get started with all the torque the LT1/LT4 has down low, so even a first timer should be able to get going and they don't ever need to shift unless they are about to take the car far away.

Yeah that makes sense. Maybe it stops a small percentage?

Just park on hills, they might have some troubles with a hill start

Thinking someone won't steal your car because it's a manual is just a joke I think. If you actually believe this then you should rethink it. Criminals also know how to drive manual, even if it's not very well, I don't think they care about smoking your clutch.

I think the manual "Millennial Theft Device" joke came about because of a couple videos showing car jackers getting thwarted by the car being a manual. Car jackers tend to be even lower IQ then car thieves and it tends to be more of a crime of opportunity thus less chance they learn how to drive a manual VS the car thief who spends the time and equipment to do things like relay attacks are forward thinking enough to learn to drive stick before running into cars that have them.

It's definitely more of a joke and not worth chancing skimping out on better methods. It may add a 1% better chance if they are dumb enough, maaybe.

Mine was a manual and stolen. It just doesn't matter, these ****s will take anything they think is theirs.

Yeah, I'm sure having a manual trans helps a bit, but I wouldn't expect much from just that. My car is stored in a garage btw, I try not to park and leave it in high risk areas, keep the fobs in Faraday pouches, and my last resort theft deterrent is a handy German partner named Walther.

Coincidentally, I have a bull named Taurus that helps, myself.

It is a custom setup built and installed by Snackbar Racing in Texas. I suppose it could be sold as a DIY kit. My partner shipped me one for my personal ZL1 for me to install. Obviously I won't post details on a public forum simply because the thieves could be reading this and know what to look for.

I agree and, despite the very useful information that's being discussed, it may be a good idea to delete this thread.

I bought their starter relay. I installed it today and it seems to work as expected. It's in the engine fuse box so it wouldn't be impossible to defeat, but would slow them down. I would have preferred a relay in the trunk fuse box but my 2016 2SS doesn't have a fuel or starter relay in the trunk fuse box (only a defroster relay as shown in picture). l'll stash the OEM relay in a hidden location in the car for emergencies.
